Bloody wrong this!

How can couples be marked down because of their splash-when you take into consideration their vast size difference compared to the chinese-

canadians/english bloody big shoulders/thighs-sure they will make a bigger splash than the chinese-

the chinese enter like darts....

we enter like the dart board......but just as good, surely

like a no limit and a 16lb entering the sand pit finish! (w00t)

Youre spot on with the comparison

Really enjoying the coverage but getting nothing done!!!!

Looks like we may get a medal in the canuing!!!!!

the divers post a tarrif depending on the difficulty. that decides the maximum points they can get for that particular dive, so a 3.0 difficulty might score 70 maximum, whereas a 3.4 might score 100 maximum. 2 of the judges mark 1 diver on their execution, the other 2 judges mark the other diver on their execution, and all judges mark them on the synchronisation. then, they remove the highest and lowest scores from execution, and the highest and lowest scores from synch, and add them all together! hope that clears it up a bit :)

the difficulty tarrif posted gives a multiplication factor for the score. the harder the dive, the higher the multiplication factor. as the aim is to get the highest score, the more difficult the dives they perform, the more points they can get.

judge 1 and judge 2 will score diver 1.

judge 3 and judge 4 will score diver 2.

so, if diver 1 is rubbish, and diver 2 is brilliant, the scores will be quite varied for execution

e.g 3.5 4.0 (diver 1) 7.5 8.0 (diver 2)

then the highest and lowest scores are discarded, which leaves 4.0 and 7.5 for execution.

then the 5 judges score them on their synchronisation:

e.g 5.0 5.5 6.0 6.5 7.0

then the highest and lowest scores are discarded again, leaving 5.5, 6.0, and 6.5.

Add them all together, gives 29.5, which they then multiply by the tarrif to give the final dive score.

I can't think of how else to explain it. :(

the scoring baffled me aswell....fantasic to watch though...my dad taught springboard diving for years before he died so i always liked watching it but chose to do the horses instead
