I HAVE HAD AN INTEREST IN DOG RACING FOR MANY YEARS,I HAVE OWNED GREYHOUNDS& AND RACED PEDIGREE WHIPPETS.

I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT NON PED RACING, SUCH AS WHERE,WHEN,HOW MUCH ARE PUPPIES,WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PED&NON PED RACING.

I LIVE ON THE SOUTH COAST I HAVE BEEN TO FORDINGBRIDGE BUT THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO AND MY LITTLE 22LB BITCH WAS TOTALY OUT OF HER DEPTH.

IT SEEMS FROM THIS FORUM THAT MOST RACING TAKES PLACE IN THE NORTH,ALTHOUGH I DID TRAVEL FROM CORNWALL TO DERBYSHIRE AND MANY PLACES IN BETWEEN ON THE PED OPEN CIRCUIT.

CAN ANYONE HELP :)

hi baldric

i race at fordingbridge how long ago did you come to our club

if you are intrested in a non ped pup there maybe a couple

people i can put you in touch with who have just mated there bitch. how far away are you from fordingbridge we have two weekend avent's in july . there is a week avent in devon at collompton in june.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your reply. It must have been about 5 years ago that I went to Fordingbridge but I only raced peds there.

We live in Polegate just outside Eastbourne which is probably about 2 1/2 hours drive away from Fordingbridge.

Do you know any more details about the pups that may be available?  We have a ped at the mo who is about 7 months old.

Thanks for your help.

The differences between ped/non ped racing....where do I start..

prices for a ped I suppose you pay about £200-£300 per pup, non peds vary from £45.00 to £100.00 depending on breeding etc.

non peds are also A LOT quicker, for 150 yrds you can get times like 8.20/8.30's which can be achieved by dogs/bitches 30lb to no limit.

I assume that non ped racing is easier to get into than ped racing, with non ped racing basically you go to a club and get you're dog racing, if it's decent you register it with the BWRA/NWRF and go open racing. Most of the non ped cluds are based in the north east and midlands, but every region has a club available(or should have).

There are drawbacks to non ped racing....

Our dogs are quicker than peds therefore the chances of injury are a lot higher...if you are unlucky(like us, on first name terms with our vet, and exchange xmas cards :0 ), the vet bills can mount up..2000 was a bad year for us and our vet bills were more than £1000.00,and that was 1 dog

Non ped racing tends not to be as well-organised as ped racing, after you have travelled to an open and weighed in-it could be a while before you race(11/2-2hrs), it's not so annoying if it's summer or you are at a decent location, but if it's a fairly naff place and you are hanging about it can get a bit boring.I think an awful lot of ped racing is pre-entry, is'nt it?

lots of pro's and cons with both racing, and it's personal preference, I personally like racing non peds but I can understand why people like pedigree's...vice versa.

If you are interested, why not go to the local club and have a look around and see if you like it....infact go camping at fordingbridge race weekend..it may convert you or put you off for life :D   :p   :D   :p

HI MICHELLE,
