hello, this is the first time ive posted anything on here, so i apologise if my question has already been asked but here goes. Yesterday I rescued a Border Collie pup, well when I say rescued I got her from a friend and she was the last one and if my friend hadn't found a home for her she was going to go to the R.S.P.C.A....so I couldn't refuse. My question is what things can I do to get my 5yr old Jack Russell to accept her. I know its probably early days but when ever the pup goes near Tizzy (our Jack Russell) she just walks away. I have tried having them both with me at the same time and giving them affection at the same time, but as soon as I stop and the pup goes near Tizzy to play, Tizzy just walks off, she just doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with her. Tizzy has been with dogs before and up until Xmas 2011 we had a Border Collie which she got on with great, they used to play together all the time so we had no reservations that she wouldn't be fine with this one. The pup is 7 wks old today, also it doesn't seem to want to drink much, but it is eating fine and her breath really smells, any advice would be very much appreciated.

thanks

Tracy

i think that by ignoring the pup your jackrussel is just being polite, i wouldn't push things too hard, she'll come around.... She maybe realises the pup is too small for playing with yet, and is just showing the pup who's boss, Ignoring another dog, in dog-language is her way of being in control of things.... Its a big change for her, and if she isn't being nasty i'd just let her come around to the idea.....

The smelly breath is a bit weird tho, pups normally smell lovely, If she isn't drinking and continues to whiff, i'd take her along to the vet for a check....

good luck, photos please
