Hi everyone. My names Andrew and I am a first time dog owner with a puppy.

I have a 16 week old cockapoo named Marvin that me and my girlfriend have had for nearly 2 weeks.

I'm finding it both exciting and tiring at the moment. The joys are outweighing the cleaning up and the chewing prevention so far, I hope that doesn't change!

The puppy isn't due to get out for walks for another 9 days at the time of writing. What I'm finding difficult is the potty training. My puppy doesn't have many tells as to when he needs to go and will just stop and go. We take him outside regularly and he will go but he doesn't choose to head outside or let us know. Does anyone have any tips for this? Is it normal for the age?

Hi, and welcome to the forum. We have an article on puppy training here which might help, but do come back and ask if you have questions: House training

Also, have you been able to take him out for socialisation? Ideally, this should start before 16 weeks, even if you're not able to put him on the ground in public places. This article might also be helpful: Socialising your puppy

We do love puppy photos, BTW (hint hint :D).

Hi Andrew
Very exciting time for and your gf - I hope Marvin is settling well and soon let’s you know when he needs a toilet break
