hi,just joined i bought a new dog last night was wondering about this cross not something i have come across before in the lurcher world lol his mother is a full ped english pointer his dad is a full ped deerhound,my boy is 10 months old.Needs a lot of training done as he has been left out in the garden,and only allowed in the house for a bit at night.wondered if anyone can give me any info on this type of cross thanks :sweating:

Hi not the sort of dog for me, ped dogs are u. s. as workers,if you intend to work your dog you have a lot on your plate. Cant see the point in not buying a pup from working stock its hard enough to end up with a good quality lurcher off workers as it is. If you just want to show it might just be the sort of dog that just might take the judges eye.training wise pointers are smart dogs and are quite trainable, but show breed, who knows if you go to crufts its hard to see a dog that will walk on the lead without it dragging its handler around the ring. In the obedience ring never seen pointer or deerhound even in the lowest class, but its your dog and i hope it brings you a lot of pleasure and happiness.

i own a german shorthaired pointer (along with lurchers) and work her with the gun, falcons and stalking with the air rifle, very trainable. i do know that there is a DVD available on the market of a chap that bred and kept 2 pups back, the breeding is, german wirehaired pointer cross greyhound, it shows them running and catching rabbits, retrieving shot game when he takes them out with the gun, which to me seems like a very versatile dog,
im a big believer in the fact that no matter if the pup has come from working parents or non workers, if you put the right training into your dog then you will get what your looking for, no matter where it came from but there are people out there that say always buy from working parents,
at the end of the day, you know what cross he is, you've seen him and like the look of him (otherwise why buy him :clown: ), and that sort of breed wont be the fastest but speed isnt everything, and if you go back 40/50 or even 60 years, a rabbit on the table was a way of life and those dogs back then would have been a heinz 57,
what is it that you will be wanting to do with him? and lets see some pics of him please

My friend has a lurcher who is pointerXgrey X beddy lurcher. He is pointer colouring but lurcher in shape. He is a very very good hunter, really quick.

Not true they were lurchers not mongrels [heinz 57] worker to worker will always beat so called non worker. You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. :clown:

I owned 2 gun dog lurchers back in the 1990's,I also bred them and what fun we had lamping,beating ,showing and racing.
The bitch from the first litter was very fast and also she was the smallest,I had her pts 3 years ago.
The dog I had from the second litter was harder to train but,we got there in the end and he is 10 years old but retired due to leg injury.
The mum of these two was a german short haired pointer x springer,the dad was greyhound,whippet,collie,Hancock.
