Well i went to a lurcher show 2 weeks ago and by the lurcher ring there was a very small cage with two greyhoundy looking pups stuffed in it, this was a baking hot day and they were in the direct sunlight with no water. I felt so sorry for them i just had to rescue one!

So i found the person selling them, i paid £95 for one and got a horse rope with him for a lead  I could have kicked myself for rescuing him, but i just couldn't leave without one and he is soo good looking. He was in terrible condition though, smelled strongly of urine and feaces, fleas were crawling on him, dehydrated, and when i wormed him :x He couldn't have been wormed at all in his whole life, hes 18 weeks old and now called Draco, he was apparantly called Blue but he didn't respond to it :- "

Dam: 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 border collie X 1/2 Deerhound 1/2 Greyhound

Sire: 1/2 Saluki 1/2 Greyhound X 1/2 Bull 1/2 Greyhound.

So he is: 9/16 Greyhound, 2/16 Deerhound, 2/16 Saluki, 2/16 Bull, 1/16 Border Collie!

He's a lovely lad and I bet he is VERY PLEASED that you rescued him. He is certainly looking nice now.

what a stunning little dog, such amazing eyes! :* will be interesting to see how big he grows.

well done you for rescuing the little mite

I know the woman who was selling the pups and was there when you bought him. She had a towel over the crate providing adequate shade and was bringing them water throughout the day. She was stewarding the ring (as she has done at that show for many years) so had to bring them with her, and as she had two left requiring homes she tried to find homes for them. He was brought up in a real farm environment, he was well socialised and healthy. If you want to know what a real rescue is like, you should have seen the condition that my Nana was in, even after two months of care in a foster home, or poor skinny Josephine who was too scared to let anyone touch her, and was so unhappy with her breeder taht she was refusing to eat.

She is very highly respected as one of the masters of the Hunt in question. She helped me when I nearly died in a riding accident and was wonderful with my poor horse who did die in the accident. She has been a friend and advisor for many years, she is a real country woman. Her work has been instrumental in the campaign for hunting. Her animals are well worked and well cared for, you should visit her stables to see the fantastic condition of her horses, only well maintianed animals could cope with a day at the head of the hunt.

To be honest I don't think that she would mind about the things you have said about her as she knows they aren't true, but she has done so much for me that I feel compelled to defend her.

Well you know her, so of course your going to defend her. So would i, BUT he was not in the best of conditions at all, only when people started saying that the pups had no shade or water did she take action. He WAS riddled with fleas and worms, why would i lie and he did smell really bad.

Maybe her horses are well cared for and her older dogs, maybe she just didn't have enough time for the pups.

I know what a real rescue is like, i have taken lurcher rescues in and rehomed them. I don't want to make enemys, i'm being totally honest.

how many other dogs do you have at home sight hound lover...have you not just bred about 3 litters in the last 2 months...or is this someone else who is the mass-breeder ?

j :p hn

Oeh, well done for standing up for your friend. I do get a little sick of people who "rescue" dogs or pups, when really they have re-homed them. The difference is vast, as rescuing sounds far mor worthy, saving a dog from certain horrors, whereas re- homing hasnt got the same qudos. All my 3 are re-homed, no previous terrors in their lives, just surplas to requirement. A couple of yours were proper "resues" and i applaud you for taking them in. But people who invent a terrible former owner/life for their recent new additions do no good at all for genuine breeders trying to sell pups, or working dog people going about their buisiness.

"Rescue dog: A dog that has been rescued from possible euthanasia in an animal shelter, that has been rescued from an abusive or severely neglectful home, or that is simply no longer wanted by its owner ; usually these dogs are placed in new homes with new owners, possibly after evaluation and rehabilitation by rescue groups or foster homes"

Wikipedia

This certainly covers Nana and Josephine Olivia, who took many months to recover and look as plump and happy as this little one
