This picture show Narcissus at the first place of the B Final at the Pyrénéan Masters in Luchon

Although Narcissus is in the less than 13 kgs category, he had run with the less than 15 kgs dogs, and won !

He was number five ( because of the light, his yellow jacket appear white ! ) in the middle of 8 other whippets

Congratulations, he's a wonderful looking dog and of such correct size.  Wish we had racers on this side of the Atlantic who were as correct, but the main racing breeders are in the U.S. and you'd be very hard pressed to find one any where near correct size.

There are three categories for Racing Whippets in France for the races under the Société Centrale Canine's authority :

Bitches :

- W ( Whippet ) until 45 centimeters and 10 kgs

- GW ( Grand Whippet = tall Whippet ) up to 45 until 47 centimeters and 10 until 11,5 kgs

- TGW ( Très Grand Whippet = very tall Whippet ) up to 47 until 49 centimeters and 11,5 until 13 kgs

Dogs :

- W ( see before ) until 49 centimeters and 12 kgs

- GW ( see before ) up to 49 until 51 centimeters and 12 until 14 kgs

- TGW ( see before ) up to 51 until 53 centimeters and 14 until 15,5 kgs

The French Whippet's Standard is 47-51 centimeters for dogs and 44-47 for bitches but the French Whippet Club ( Official Breed Club ) allows 2 centimeters + or - so that a dog is in the standard if he is 45-53 centimeters and a bitch 42-49 centimeters

If you want to run a Whippet ( in Racing or Coursing ) under the FCI's authority, dogs can participate if there are not up to 51 centimeters and bitches 48 ( ! ) centimeters

For races under these two authorities, Whippets must be registered definitively to the LOF ( your CKC, KC, AKC, ... )

Pari Mutuel's races have a different system of categories :

Dogs :

- less than 13 kgs

- less than 15 kgs

- less than 17 kgs

Bitches :

- less than 11 kgs

- less than 13 kgs

- less than 15 kgs

There is no limit for the height so you can see dogs who are in the less than 13 kgs category and are 56 centimeters high

Compare with the 50,5 centimeters of NARCISSUS who is in the less than 13 kgs category !

To race in Pari Mutuel, a Whippet must have at least a birth certificate
