Thankfully our walk took us down Winnats Pass, not up!

Some silly, and probably very hot sheep :clown:

Nice walk, not too taxing. My hip was playing up a bit on the way down though - its always worse for me going down hill than up

I wish we knew you wanted to walk it, you could've joined us.

beautiful scenery lucy

downhills hurt for me too, damn athritis ;)

Fantastic pictures Lucy - thanks. Love the picture of the sheep. :teehee: All the more determined to walk it now - it's not a particularly difficult walk is it? I was amazed the first time we ever drove down Winnats Pass - not being from these parts and knowing very little about the Peak District, it was totally unexpected. It's such a deep, spectacular gorge. (w00t) And the weather was nice today - according to the local news this area had the best weather in Britain today.

Ah-ha. :)

That's just 20 mins down the road from me. Some great views to be had over Hope Valley and Edale valley on either side. The OH used to work in Edale and when it snowed in the winter he could only get back home via the Winnats pass as this was the only road they gritted out of the two valleys.

Did you see any hang gliders up there?

I wonder where you'll end up tomorrow? :teehee:

I hope its not arthritis, its my hip which keeps sort of popping out :x its much better than it was before my holiday - I was doubting whether I would be walking far at all 2 weeks ago.

No its not particularly hard to walk at all Gillian. The hardest bit is at the begining, we walked from Castleton. John has already been looking at a holiday cottage there for next year :)

We did see some hang gliders but only when we were in the car on the way home. We haven't planned anything for tomorrow yet, I think we will wait to see what the weathers like in the morning. The forecast isn't good but it wasn't good for today either. Thats not a road I would like to travel through in snow, the sheep could obviously tell that there was no need for gritting today!

If you can walk up Goat Fell, Mam Tor will be a breeze :teehee: . It's also paved along the ridge line, so quite easy walking once you get to the lower ridge top. Loads of sheep about, and they mug you for your sandwiches :- "

I was amazed by Winnats Pass as well. When I first came up to the Peak District, Mick drove me around to get a good luck at where he was based (he'd just moved from the Lakes). I wasn't overly impressed :b , until I came over Winnatts Pass and then back over Mam Tor. The whole of the Edale Valley opened up before me, and I knew I wanted to live here afterall. :)

We went the opposite way round I think! We came up from Castleton up a road called Hollowfield road and then climbed up to the paved ridge from there - that was the only bit which got my legs wobbling a bit  It was very thoughtful of someone to pave the rest of the way wasn't it :teehee:

Oh dear, I used to think it was my knees which caused the problem but I went to a physio and she said it was my pelvis which is out of alignment and also I either have a shallow hip socket or something wrong with some long tendon with a funny name  happy days! Is it arthritis in your knees then? My mum has RA which I hope she han't passed on to me :sweating:

Love the picture of the sheep in the salt bin.. Brilliant....some lovely walks there..
