Lurchers For Show Or Working?

i only work mine no show's or lure racing not that theres any thing wrong with that each to his own

i was just woundering what was the % of workers to showers

Yes, Devonmaid is right, I show, race and work mine to a degree.

I personally think that if you work or race your dogs they make happier pets, because that's what mine are first, PETS.

do showing in summer time but more in 2 the lure racing than showing.

Mine do both.I like working my dogs,and enjoy showing and racing too.More for

the social side with the shows,it can be a real laugh.

i think you shouldve had the 3rd option on here..."both show & work" as most lurcher owners i know do both .

I do both with mine all year round, he loves showing so he can show everyone how beautiful he is and how lovely he moves and he loves chasing the lure especially if there is jumping envolved!! :teehee:

He also loves working, day or nite, summer or winter and would for 24 hrs a day if he could! :sorcerer: :sorcerer: :sorcerer:

hi i also work race and show my dogs. i think its a good idea to leave this as 2 options as it lets us see peoples main reasons for keeping this type of dog, apart from being the best pets of course. my dog is pet first, worker second and race and show in the summer for fun. :cheers:

this is an absolutley pointless thread to start on this forum. i predict that 80% for show and 20 %work. but then you get the ones that pretend they hunt but dont. this is a lurcher froum for showing and racing. i come on here to see pictures of the shows and racing. anyone that hunts is on the hunting life forum.

absolutely true.

if the pup is happy,why not.

the fact is that my girl has never been encouraged or shown how to hunt,but you just try and stop her.it's in her blood(can't be in her brain-there's not enough space).

i think we all know,you can't make a lurcher do something it doesn't want to do.but what lurcher wouldn't love the attention and fuss that goes with showing,whilst still getting down and dirty,rolling in the scent for the hunt.

I no longer work my dogs, age and ill-health having caught up with me, but that is why I got into lurchers in the first place. For two years, long ago, they were my only source of income. Nonetheless I got into showing early, have always enjoyed it, as have the dogs.

Nowadays I 'show' little, don't have a lot to show, but my dogs are raced, including lure coursing, whenever possible, they also compete in obedience and jumping competitions, in gundog scurries etc. They love it all, just as they do on the odd occasion they get behind live quarry.

My dogs love doing things, they love showing off, work, show, competitions, demonstrations, walking with me, romping in the garden, even a trip to the pub. Let 'em get on with it I say, give it a go. After all, not all lurchers get a chance to work nowadays, not in a political climate where even chasing a squirrel is illegal.

Lurchers in general are one of the cleverest, most versatile and affectionate types

of dog around. Do your best, give 'em back as much as they give to you............
