LSB 1112/8/E:

Lurcher - Bedlington x Whippet -bitch (neutered)

Rough coated

White and biscuit (70% white, 30% biscuit)

Microchipped

Height: 18- 20 ins. approx

Age: 4 years

Name is "Daisy"

Stolen from: Brailsford, nr. Ashbourne, Derbyshire on 31/08/02

Circumstance of loss: We were on holiday, my father who lives next door to us was driving down our lane when he came across 2 men on the road with a dog which he said looked just like Daisy (she is very unique, we have run a rescue centre for 10 years and we have had many lurchers in, but I have never seen one anything like Daisy). My father stopped and got out of the car and said to the men 'we have a dog like that one' they replied 'oh have you' my dad then said 'what sort of dog is she then'? they replied 'A Bedlington'. (I have since explained to dad what a bedlington looks like and he said the dog on the lane was nothing like a Bedlington, and although Daisy is a Bedlington x, she too is nothing like a Bedlington although an expert would be able to detect the Bedlington strain in her). After this point a car pulled up at the back of my father's and couldn't pass as our lane is very narrow, so my dad got into his car and came home. We were away at the time but unfortunately my dad didn't think to ask our friend who was staying in our house looking after the dogs if Daisy was infact safe indoors. It was only later that night 10.00pm that our friend rang us at our hotel to inform us that Daisy was missing. We immediately rang my dad to see if Daisy had gone round to his house and was locked in, it was then that the story unfolded and dad is now convinced that the dog on the lane was definately Daisy. The men on the lane were dark haired aged approximately between 20 - 32 years of age and looked similar - perhaps brothers. They also had 2-3 dogs already in the back of their vehicle which was possibly a blue land rover or pick up.

Additional Info: Daisy is Identi-chipped

She's back home.

>We got a call from Ashbourne police, late afternoon, to say that they had had a call from a couple in Stanley who had found a dog answering Daisy’s description, near Brailsford Church (the other side of the A52 to us) on Sunday afternoon. The man was there with a metal detector (his hobby) when Daisy appeared in a filthy condition and stuck by his side for a few hours. The man packed up to go home and couldn’t bare to leave Daisy behind and although he appreciated that he would be taking Daisy out of her area he felt that at least he would be safe – how right he was!

Anyway, first thing this morning (Daisy slept the night on there bed after first having a good bath) his wife started phoning dog wardens, rescues, the Derby Evening Telegraph, the RSPCA  etc. before finally ringing Ashbourne Police, who thankfully connected the description of the found dog with our Daisy.
