Hi all,

as you all know I have a gorgeous whippet/bedlington/greyhound called Chance who's 25 months old on the 20th of this month, now a couple of weeks ago I thought she was due into season as she was 'humping' Binx ALOT, plus the next door but one's collie had jumped the fences and was in my garden (which we chased away)

I've not noticed any blood at all and her vulva is not enlarged, the humping has stopped and no other males are taking any notice of her what-so-ever, I know for sure she hasn't been mated as she's never left my side,

I'm totally confused now as to whether she had a season or not??? this (if it was) would have been her first one, and if she wasn't in heat do you all think she should have deffo had one by no because of her age??

I have heard that grey mixes are sometimes later than other dogs to come into heat but 25 months???

any help please? do you think she could think she's preggers and be having a phantom? thats why her 'supposed heat season' has been cut short?

p.s she's acting like she normally does no change in her personalitiy

Hi Tina, women ehh, you cant live with them and you cant live without them...

Dont think your bitch has had a season. Some bitches are really clean, and blood may not be noticed so much, get a piece of cotton wool or kitchen towel when you ever think she is due again, dab it on firmly and check for the obvious. Swelling, I have had deerhound bitches that were enormous when in heat, and have also had greyhound bitches brought for mating that were tiny, if your bitch falls into the latter, it should still be puffy and spongy when in heat as opposed to being firm and hard if not.

I had a young bitch as you describe, a lurcher, but with her there was a little blood, but the heat didnt follow any text book course, however she did come into her first proper heat shortly after. WATCH this bitch over the next few weeks....

My only reservation would be her age, I have had lurchers a long time, also slow maturing deehounds, I have never had a bitch go over 2 years before her maiden heat, but Im sure there have been some,

Thank you so much for replying Doxhope  I will keep a close eye on her, can't do nothing else really as she's my shadow, and thanks for the tips

a pic of her for you, taken yesterday, just to put a face to her name (and to show her off)
