Has anyone had any experience of an Azawakh or knows anyone that has one? I stumbled across this breed when doing a search on sloughi's and would like to know what they are like to live with.
We had an azawakh till recently, he died. He was a very good dog till he was about 2 years old, then his character changed. We couldn't take him anywhere anymore, he didn't like strange people or dogs anymore. Before this we took him everywhere even where there were big crowds. He hated other male dogs, so we had to place our other males. He was allways good for us, though. He was only 8 when he died, he had some heredetary disease of his paws. His breeder had to put his mum to sleep as well from the same disease. In the end he could barely stand up.
I know there are azawakhs with better characters now, but you allways have to be on your guard with them, most of them just don' t like other people. You have to let them come to you and never try to aproach an azawakh yourself.
This does help. I was hoping you were going to tell me that they were the best and easiest dogs in the world. I will have to think about this before I go ahead and do it. There is a breader about 70 miles away from me so I can go and see the dogs.
