Looking For Help Making A Dvd

A friend at works son - 17 years old is dying of cancer, and is going to be in hospital most or all the rest of his life, and due to the nature of his treatment he isnt allowed many visitors as his immune system is virually zero, so his Mum wants to make a dvd of all his friends and family sending him messages, so my question is - how do you go about transfering video images from both cameras and mobile phones, what software do I need, how do I download the information from mobiles etc , if anyone could help I would be very grateful
