Hello,

I know it has been way too long since I have been on here, had a hard couple of months, new job, break up with bf, trying to afford to keep house by myself. But Poppy has been by my side through it all. Don't know what I would do without her!

Anyway I need some advice, the chance may arise for me to have a saluki x, he is a year old and gorgeous apparently. My mum has given the lady her number. The lady has another dog that has been bullying this little boy and also her husband does not like him! I know which one I would be getting rid of!

I am waiting to hear what she wants to do and trying to think sensibly at the same time! I always intended to get another dog but just not this soon! Now I am on my own Poppy is at home a lot more by herself, my neighbour is fab and goes in to let her out and take her for walks and company but she can't do this every day. I would love to know that Poppy had company during the day and she would love a playmate. To see two running dogs together..... they are so beautiful!

I just need some advice as I have only ever had one dog. I want to make the right decision or I know it will not be fair on me or the dogs.

Thanks

Carla

How old is Poppy ?

Can you `try him `for a long weekend maybe . before commiting . 2 of course are so much better than 1 provided they get on of course

Poppy is 18 months old and a little angel (most of the time!)

Yes I think a trial would be a good idea, I'm just worried that I will see him and fall in love with him and just want him!

Why are two dogs better than one? Just trying to think of pros and cons!

Nice to see you back Carla :)

Saluki x, lucky you if it works out. The

trial sounds like a good idea.

Two Dogs are brilliant as long as they get on. Then they'll have each others company for cuddles when ur not home and for playtime.

Theres only two cons I can think of so far (as long as they get along) are

1= Double the cost of everything, vet bills/insurance and food ect. Oh and Iv just spent a shocking amount on Flee treatment cos poor Lotti came to me with tons and tons of Flees.

2 = The extra space u will loose on ur floor/sofa, the need to step over two dogs that love to lay right in the doorway and the cons of how many times MORE u will be tripping up on Dogs who just seem to no where u want to walk

If you can afford two I can't really think of any cons :D

It's only when you hit 3, 4, (us at the mo) or 5 (us in the past and probably again next spring) or more that cons re. pack dynamic, space etc. may become an issue.

I would say though that you need to be sure you have the time to give each dog training and exercise on it's own own a few times a week, as well as in company with it's canine chums.

Its easy to fall for any dog needing a home , but try to besubjective , you dont want to upset Polly , but a friend to play with and `hang out with ` would be fun for both you and her . Being in a multiple household mine tend to pair off . mostly its mother daughter , but not always

Well we have 3 whippys and I am working towards number 4 !! The only cons to me is the extra cost, but never having had a Saluki, I can't advise there. I do love the breed though, they are so elegant.

BTW Jax - your gang look great on your sofa - , how do you fit them all in your house? :D

An Update.....

The lady has not been in contact so it looks like she has decided to give it another go and win her partner over.

I can see that it becomes addictive so maybe its a good thing! My sofa is only little!

I'm sure I will be adding to the family soon, when the time is right.

Thanks for all the advice, has been really helpful.

Carla x
