Labrador Puppy

Hello Dog Lovers...

My first ever post on this forum..

I have bought a female Labrador puppy which is now 4 months old, Very high pedigree her grandparents been champion and all that..

So far so good, only one problem I have noticed when i take her to the park she always go for the Duck poo, I also caught her few times eating her own poo in the garden.

Any reason why she does that..

There are various theories, including that it does get your attention, or that it may be dietary - either she feels something is missing in her diet, or the poo retains some nutritional value that she is getting from it.

A lot of dogs outgrow it, one of the first things is to be hyper vigilant. A friend swears by adding a dessert spoonful of live natural yoghurt to her diet.

It has the good bacteria in it that help promote gut health - you will likely have seen adverts on tv for it, for humans. There is another argument that not enough of the bacteria reach the gut due to the dog's more aggressive digestive process, but on the other hand a dog's digestive system is a lot shorter than ours.

My view is that it can't do any harm and it might help, so has to be worth a shot.

And I should have been clearer, on re-reading my other post I meant be hyper vigilant about cleaning up poo.

And to add what is already said..
Some dogs are just attracted to various animal poos I've had dogs that only 'like' horse poo, the fresher the better..
And some have been particularly partial to sheep droppings..or cat's (yuk). Funnily bird poo has been less of an issue with mine.
Some times they 'move on' forget the habit and with some it persist...??
But as your dog is still very young, I suspect it might have lots to do with 'experimenting'. Just like with human babies..they 'put' everything into their mouths and learn from their environment.

My dog used to eat dog poo but grew out of that and now only eats fresh cow and horse poo. He has discerning tastes. Oh, and 'bunny kibble' as we call it - that's a delicacy!
