Hi
I probably won't post often but JudyN said that there were some people on here from the olden days (sorry guys I feel old now) who may remember me posting as Bendog a long long way back so thought I'd just say hi and give an update.

Our beautiful Bendog was put to sleep almost exactly 4 years ago at the age of 15 and a half, just old age, dementia and eventually his back legs failing led us to decide it was time.

We still have Poppy and Charlie who are both around 11 now. Poppy was a nightmare puppy but she's a great "take anywhere" dog now for the most part so I probably don't give her the credit she deserves. She's a full on terrier and always will be so can never 100% be trusted not to take herself off hunting. Needs plenty to do at home or else she'll just pester you until you give her a walk or some training. Charlie is happy with a ball and a sofa.

We also now have 2 human children boys who are 7 and nearly 4.

I'd sort of been half looking for a new dog but also not really looking, most rescues won't rehome with younger kids so when I found one that will I kind of just said if they got anything suitable for us we'd be happy to take them but didn't really expect anything and definitely didn't expect a baby puppy. A few weeks later they got in touch to offer us first refusal of a young lurcher and here we are!!

He's around 10 weeks old and only been with us for the weekend so far but he's been so good. He was rehomed for "biting" which seems just normal puppy mouthing although I can see the terrier in him. He's a bolshy little guy and not afraid of anything so we are watching him carefully with the other dogs and hoping he won't get too big for his boots. Although they will take no nonsense either!

Named him Kipper. It's our first pup in a long time and first lurcher so I will likely be lurking and reading a bit as really don't want to mess him up

Hi - of course I remember you as Bendog. Good to catch up with you again.

Puppy has some big joints to grow into. Do you know how he's bred? (if a Rescue told you, take no notice - they seldom have any experience with breeding inheritance so just make things up). Looks a knowing little chap.

Oh he looks gorgeous, as are your others.

Welcome Scraggle - it's lovely to see you here :)

Kipper's the absolute spit of Jasper as a pup. What could possibly go wrong?:D I know how busy you are, but really hope we get to hear all about him and see lots of photos as he grows :emoji_blue_heart:

They've just said Bedlington lurcher which could mean anything really. He's insured through the rescue for 5 weeks and we'll likely keep him insured as I know how accident prone pointy dogs can be

I think the first owner had 3 young children and it was their first dog and they very much realised they were out of their depth. The rescue lady suspects that they may have bought him from the nearby traveller camp originally, and possibly taken from his mum slightly young too but that's all purely speculation on her part. She's a working collie lady and seems to have a decent dollop of common sense so she may be right but who knows and it doesn't really matter either way.

He's our first bigger dog so all a bit new and terrifying but he's been a sweetie so far. Any guesses how big he'll be? I'm hoping he won't get too big for our car!

If you say what weight and height is, I can have a hunt back and see if I can find Jasper's weight & height at a similar age. I'm wondering if the neck fluff could indicate deerhound in the mix....

He’s an absolute charmer and you’re very lucky. Hope it all works out well for the group. Sighthounds are wonderful dogs, sensitive and gentle. With due respect to other sighthound people, and we’re on our third rescued whippet, don’t expect Brain of Britain. But they’ll love you to bits.

don’t expect Brain of Britain.

Jasper would take great exception to that - never underestimate what a healthy dose of terrier genes can do!

Or anything else in the mix. I walk a lovely girl who is half lurcher half Lagotto Romagnolo. She's bright as anything.

I think after Poppy though I would settle for sweet but dim. Too much intelligence in a dog just causes trouble

He's around 5kg and 11inch to the shoulder at 10 weeks nearly as tall as the terriers.

I always find them very smart indeed, especially when fulfilling ambitions that don't coincide with the owner's wishes!

At 13 weeks & 2 days, Jasper was 19.5" tts. So just make sure Kipper doesn't grow 8.5" in the next 3 weeks....

Sorry, pardon lo siento muchísimo. I’m too used to whippets (sorry to whippet owners). Of course lurchers will have other genes. Yes, I saw on YouTube Jasper’s game with the board big respect.

Teddy is 10 weeks old 8.7kgs and 18"tts ....he is deerhound ;)
Kipper is gorgeous
