APPARENTLY KENNEL COUGH WAS CAUGHT AT THE STEVENSTONE SHOW. SO IF YOU WERE THERE KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR DOGS.

thought the gestation period was longer than that?

,oh well glad i didnt go

Incubation period is 3-10 days Tish, apparently it was a very mild case contracted at Stevenstone show (if that was the case !!) & Jen just for the record there are outbreaks of Kennel Cough in most parts of the country..........

As i understand it, the person(s) involved have only had their dogs put on antibiotics as a precautionary measure, they were actually given the option of walking out of the vets without the antibiotics, so it sounds to me as though it possibly is not kennel cough, but being reesponsible dog owners, they decided to let the person who was closest to them at the show know what was happening, I hardly think it warrants banning people from attending a show or racing event, especially given that kennel cough is around us all of the time in any event.

Furthermore, given the incubation period, i suspect that if it is kennel cough it wasn't picked up last Sunday, but possibly the Sunday before, and the people concrened didn't go anywhere the previous week in any event.

People are right to be concerned as the more serious strains of kennel cough are dangerous to vunerable dogs but don't overreact by telephoning people and tellling them they can't go to an event.

yes you are probably right that if kennel cough was caught the week before Stevenstone but it could have been passed on at that show to other dogs who may well be thinking of coming to our racing on Sunday.

After the fiasco of 3 years ago when kennel cough was picked up at a show and bought to the racing and all the dogs caught it and 2 nearly died,I am afraid we take it very seriously. After veterinary advice, are decision has been made.

A friend's dog was diagnosed with kennel cough 10 days after attending the South West Terrier, Lurcher and Ferret club show at Ilsington. She didn't take the dog to Stevenstone but there were probably several there who may have been incubating at the time.
