Hi,

There's going to be a new pup at our house as soon as we find the right one :))

Trouble is, us and the kids were all committed to go down the Whippet / Whippet X route, but my wife has been put off by stories of these little monkies running off and not coming back when called.

Also, we live in Ide Hill in Kent, 800ft up, and have pretty cold winters (nowhere near as cold as you guys up in the Dales etc though). She is also concerned that Whippets do suffer in the cold.

Are we worrying about nothing, or does she have a point?

At the moment, we are looking at options, but I really really want to go down the Whippet X route - if only I could find a Whippet X Border Collie - that would probably be the answer.

Thanks

Mick

I live on the North Kent downs and it gets very cold here too, but the girls (I have 2 whippets) are fine in their fleece coats when it is dry and waterproof/fleece lined when wet. They wear their indoor fleeces at night when it is very cold, but usually end up in my bed.

I took them both to dog training classes where they got theur silver good citizens awards and they have pretty good recall - don't like me out of their sight! The only time they won't come back is when they find a nice bunny scent!! Even then, I have had no trouble getting them back when they have had enough. They seem to know just where I am.

I would certainly recommend a whippet in Kent!
