Dear fellow members,
I walk my Jack Russell 5-10miles everyday, yes, she is tire after the walk. I attach her after walk photos below. But she loves the walk and looks forward to it everyday, keep buzzing me if I am lazy to go.
I signed up a marathon for october. I think to train and probably do the marathon with her if this is allowed.
But then, my friend blamed me for torture the dog for running 26 miles marathon, because jack russell is a small dog, this is too much for her.
Is 26miles too much for her? Let said, do 26miles on one day, and 5-10miles on other 6days in the week. (will feed her water and food every 2hours)
I love her, didnt want to hurt her. But she indeed love walking and running, you can see how excited she is everyday.

I'd say yes, it is too much for her. It's more than 2½ times your current longest walk. And, as well as this being running, not walking, you don't say how old she is or what ground it will be on and these are all factors that could contribute to injuring her too.

Sometimes we have to be sensible for them, and IMO it is too far. Also consider other runners, who may be afraid of dogs or trip over her - that's not safe for her either.

She's so pretty! Thanks for sharing the photos.

2.5years old
The daily 5-10miles walk is off lead walk and she always run far ahead and come and fro, so she probably do double of my distance, probably 10-20miles to her

Ok, probably not to run the actual marathon

Not to run the actual distance. Her daily outings are fine, but given she runs about and does more mileage than you, that really is quite enough. It will buy you a few years at the other end of her life if you are careful now.

She is very pretty, my princess, accompany me through the worst part of my time, so my angel too.

Ooh, Stafford Castle! I used to go to school up West Way (I lived on Eccleshall Road for many years back in the 70s).

It's a small world :)

There's nothing to lose by not taking her 26 miles - she gets all the exercise she needs, in an interesting location, presumably with plenty of sniffing and mooching - but taking her certainly has the potential to damage her in one way or another, even if the damage doesn't manifest till she's older. So I wouldn't do it.

Indeed small world
Stafford castle is lovely, green and away from road traffic. She loves running off lead, so it is too dangerous if there is road traffic nearby. I mainly take her to Stafford Castle or Doxey Masher.
I want her to be healthy and happy. Just feel sorry to her if I go train marathon alone, leaving her home alone, especially I know walking and running are her favourite things.
What if I split to 2sessions, 13miles in the morning and another 13miles by the evening? Would this ok for her?
Thanks

It's still 26 miles in one day. IMO too far.

She doesn't have to spend the day on her own. You could arrange for a dog-sitter, or someone who will visit once or twice during the day and be company for her.

And I thought I walked mine a lot wow , you will get a very fit dog and I like my dogs fit but 26 miles a day really ,, think you might find out when she gets older that 26 miles was too far
