Insect bites (on me)

Ok guys, sorry if this is too much sharing but I am looking for some advice.

At the start of July I got four insect bites - one is even on the palm of my hand. I know I am accurate with the timescale because we were at a wedding in mid July and I commented (just after getting them) to the mother of the bride that at least they would be gone by the time of the wedding. They weren't. They are still here.

They are not drive-you-nuts itchy, but they do itch a bit, mainly when I am warm like in bed. They are not particularly inflamed, just a little bit raised. Because they are not too annoying I have been a bit lazy about putting on antiseptic.

So - can anyone suggest what might have bitten me that leaves a 6 week reaction; and more importantly, if we can pinpoint what might have done this is there anything good I can use to get rid of them?

Do you have any idea where you were and what you were doing at the time? I've certainly had a horsefly bite on my shoulder that happened a month ago and is still red and can itch at night. Mild insect bit cream from chemist dulls it down again.

I expect I was in the garden - horsefly is certainly possible, I just didn't realise they lasted so long. Thanks @merlina.

Horsefly bites last for ages - I had a couple on one ankle that were red, swollen and itchy for weeks.

haha - I was borderline for hospitalisation for one on my arm last year. It got infected and my arm was red and swollen. I was on double the usual dose of antibiotic for 2 days from the emergency doctor and luckily that did work.

They are horrible things. I've been covering myself in repellents this year as there are loads around.

Would you believe I still have marks on my leg? But at least not so itchy. And we are coming into jeans and welly weather, hopefully they will be gone by the time I get back into shorter trousers next spring!

I still have a mark on my arm from a bite and like yours it wasn’t particularly itchy! I hope it doesn’t scar

I had shingles first ...got over that and then had chicken pox ....very unusual i am told ...ive had reoccurring shingles for the past 6 yrs
