Just thought i'd start a new topic for discussion. For those who raced their dogs regularly last summer, did you find an increase in the number of injuries to your dogs than previous summers due to the very hot weather and very hard running surfaces.

I for one had to do a 40 mile trip just to find suitable ground to gallop my dogs when i was preparing them for a race due to the hard ground and when the day of the race came i was praying for some rain.

:thumbsup:your best off going to the beach in the summer or even the winter come to that. Its suppose to be going to be a wet summer this one all the whippet pple are saying "we hope so" lol

Is there a case for bend racing on sand in the height of the summer months for the softer ground and then onto the straights for the softer ground in autumn, winter and spring. It would certainly help the dogs with racing on softer ground, but would we the racers like to partake in a big open race being a few degrees above freezing and it lashing down with rain? I remember a very cold and wet large meeting at Seaham one easter, the only time people went to the track side was to race their dog and then it was back into the caravan or car to keep warm and dry.

I REMEMBER IT SNOWING ONE YEAR AT SEAHAM ...IT WAS FREEZING WE HAD THE HEATING ON IN THE CARAVAN ALL WEEKEND ...SHAME FOR THE PEOPLE STOPPING IN VANS AND TENTS

WE TEND TO USE THE BEACH ALL YEAR ROUND FOR GALLOPING OUR DOGS

 Your right there John no one wants to go for a days racing if its wet cold and miserable. Just hoping that this summer is not as warm as last summer. I hope ur right Sherry that its a bit wetter this year. Do the straight racing tracks get watered prior to racing over in England?

Darren

 the tracks dont get watered as far as Im aware Dazgail but if Im wrong Im sure somebody will put me right lol

At the B.W.R.A Straight Championahips last year the track was watered and I remember a few years ago at Old Hall the track getting watered for the Straight Championships and I for one was very gratefull.

BEACH IS ALWAYS BEST TO TRAIN YOUR WHIPSTERS ON IN THE SUMMER, :D TROUBLE IS WE LIVE 70 ODD MILE AWAY FROM THE BEACH SO IT'S A DAYS JOB WHEN WE GO....( i like going to the seaside though) :p

Mine love the beech, i can't wait to go this year with the kids.

Only trouble is, all we see is 3 dogs running off into the distance towards the sea, oh & they all manage to eat something disgusting.

mmmmm fond memories of dogs puking up jelly fish and fish entrails in the back of my car:x .

the main problem we have is whipsters missing in the sand-dunes....usually looking for rabbits :b

We have just this minute got back from the beach, we are lucky as it is only 10 minutes away-sunny Morecambe!

The cocklers are a pain in the neck though, never been as many! darting back and forwards across the sands in transits and quads.
