East of England in July

Welsh Kennel Club in August

Scottish Kennel Club in August

They are all-breeds shows - yeah? What kind of Whippet entry do they draw?

Where is the East Anglican Whippet Club in July held?

Thanks,

Hello Lana

East Of England is held in Peterbotough

Welsh Kennel Club is held in THE ROYAL WELSH SHOWGROUND

BUILTH WELLS, POWYS,

Scottich Kennel club Is held in Edinburgh very close to the airport

These three shows are all breed championship shows

East Aglian Whippet is of course a breed club Championship show BUT they moved their venue last year and I have no idea where it is held now (as was not at the show) I am sure some one will be able to let you know.

Entries of course will vary depending on What day whippets are being shown, Judge ETC

Do you feel a visit coming on Lana ?

East Anglian Whippet club is/was at Littleport, Ely in Cambridgeshire.

This show always attracts a fantastic entry and is my fave show of the year. Would be fantastic if you could make it over Lana.

I have done a quick count up of entries for these shows this year.

East Anglian Whippet club 134 Dogs 234 Bitches

East of England 80 Dogs 100 Bitches

Welsh Kennel Club 98 Dogs 108 Bitches

Scottish Kennel Club 56 Dogs 76 Bitches

As you will know entries go up and down depending on the judges.

Chris

Thanks all for the info.

Am just trying to figure out what I do with 2011. Doing a lot of thinking.

There are specialties here that I need to consider and I can't do them all - they are too close together (in time) and so far away (in distance) and the driving is so taxing on the dogs (it is 3000kms to Melbourne for me). IF I fly instead of drive, I can only take two dogs (and how to decide which two?) and then when I get there I have to hire a car ( the expense starts to mount) and the dogs don't have the comfort and space of the trailer - they are cooped up in flight crates.

Was just toying with the idea of perhaps instead of driving my dogs all over the country to attend shows where often you feel like the decision is made before you even get there, that perhaps I should treat myself instead to a trip and go and meet some of the dogs that I've been longing to see in the flesh - and hopefully meet in person some of the people I've made friends with on the net.

I didn't know anyone when I came over in 2002 and I feel a trip now would be so much more fulfilling. I would love to see Terry and Sheila Smith again (they looked after me so well when I was there) and I would love to see Anita again and check out all of Cash's Gilnockie rellies.

Was thinking of Crufts - but with so many entries and dogs and bitches on at the same time I worry that I wouldn't get to see them all. And I imagine that it would be so busy that I would hardly get to talk to anyone either, especially if I felt the need to sit ringside all day for fear of missing something. Thought perhaps if I came for a couple of weeks and did a spread of shows across the UK - I'd get to closely inspect some dogs and see more of them and see more of the country. And someone might even hand me a dog to show for the day! Best time for me to do that would be August. I wouldn't be missing too many shows here - would be more likely to be able to find someone (a dog person) to come and house sit for me.

Anyways ... it's all just thinking at the moment ... trying to work out the timing of things here and if I do decide to do Melbourne and/or Brisbane I doubt that I would be making an overseas trip this year then.

The Houndshow in August always gets a large entry of whippets, and Bournemouth is also in August - the entry varies, but it's a lovely show held in the New Forest.

Hi Lana

It would be lovely if you came over to view the Whippets here and meet their owners and I have to agree that the Houndshow is a really good one to consider. Its held at Stafford showground so is central if you are travelling between North and South with a very relaxed atmosphere.

Have just realised August is peak time so doubt I could pick up any cheap flights then....

Currrently could get flights to London for as low as $1700 but not for travel in August.

I think October would be a good time to visit Lana - there is usually Driffield & South Yorkshire Whippet on the Same weekend and flights would be as cheap as they are going to be at that time of year. I work for a Travel agent's so if you want any furhter info please feel free to contact me

Thanks Russ - that could be mighty helpful.

Two things that hold me off this particular weekend in October are:

1. it is the weekend the North Qld Dog of the Year competition is held and if I'm lucky enough to qualify (one must win a BIS) then I like to compete.

2. I went to SYWC when I was there in 2002. Would be nice to do some different clubs. And I was sort of hoping it could be one in the south, one in the middle/Wales and one in Scotland - in the hope of seeing different dogs and people at each.

What's the driving distance between Driffield and SYWC (held in Sheffield?) Would it be mostly the same dogs that go to those two shows?

not forced to be same dogs Lana. it depends on who the judges are  Some dogs that went under rRchard Mason at driffield werent at SYWC and vice versa

Ive sent you a list that we have so far , but do not yet have the judge for Driffield .
