life on our family farm was not posh - it was hard work, especially in the early years on a run-down farm that hadn't been worked in decades.

OTOH, i wouldn't have traded it for a childhood in a Hamptons mansion. // I worked my butt off from an early age, with chores every day of my life, but the 30-acres was rich in wildlife & water.
We arrived before the Great Amphibian Extinction, & salamanders, frogs, toads, efts & newts were common - as were noisy insects of all sorts, & lightning bugs.

When I hear the sound clips I can't help but listen above them for bat calls.  I do a lot of citizen science things through Zooniverse, and one that I've spent a very long time listening to is identifying bats from sound clips!

Your childhood sounded totally different to mine.  Mine was industrial noises, open cast mining and, for some odd reason, lots of Canada geese, which decided that they liked the flat roof of my bedroom to use as a staging post for something.  I literally slept under about 30 geese most nights, and I can tell you that a skein of geese landing on the flat roof above you makes rather a lot of noise.
