Hello eveyone, I am a regular on the whippet forum as I have a 7 month old red brindle called Pimms.

I love Iggys, can anyone tell me how easy they are to get hold of and also how much I could expect to pay for one? Im sure Pimms would like a friend! I would just like one as a pet, not fussed about showing!

I hope I can share my experiences and it might help answer 'Unwanted's' questions too.

The simple answer about iggies seems to be that there are just very few about. They are not a commercial, widely available breed so the few that do come available are in great demand.

Therefore you have to be absolutely sure they are what you want and to do that you have to read books, meet iggy people (at shows etc), meet as many of the breed as you can and be prepared to wait. They have good points and bad and you have to know that from talking to people, reading the books, reading all the internet sites, asking breeders about life with an Iggy etc etc. If you do all that, and are clearly a good, loving and devoted potential owner you join the waiting list. There's so much more to them than just 'cute'.

In other words you have to become devoted to the breed or the puppies simply go to people who are prepared to devote the time to researching the breed.

It's nothing to do with elitism, or snobbery, or even money. It's just the few good puppies go to the homes the breeders choose and naturally they only want what's best for the puppies.

There are unscrupulous breeders out there but there's no guarantee their puppies are free from certain problems and they will charge the earth for them too.

So, a simple summary; it took me years to get Zoomie and Lottie! I own every book ever published on Italians, have been to many shows and spoken to many, many people. The money is the last concern; the quality of the pup and the quality of the home come first.

Sorry this is long-winded but hope it gives you food for thought.

And a very beautiful, strong and promising litter it is too. Ive seen the dam and sire, the litter and the conditions they are kept in can say that anyone who sees one of these fantastic little dogs will be very lucky indeed. Therefore Chien, until you have any idea what you are talking about, please keep your silly :( comments to yourself.

Yes, i have seen the ad too & although i am appalled i have to say i am not surprised, it surely was just a matter of time.

What exactly is people's problem with epupz? what is the difference between advertising a litter on there and advertising one on k9?

i don't think the breeder could have been much clearer about the homes expected for these pups.........this is what the advert says

gorgeous litter of 9 italian x whippets, all blues or fawns, dew claws removed, wormed from 2 wks, will be frontlined and have vet check with cert, extra special homes required for these babies, please no timewasters, will involve lengthy chats to make sure these are the pups for you and i only want forever homes for these, will involve puppy contract too, come with 1st jabs and microchipping, puppy advice pack and puppy diet pack, this mating was not planned and will not be repeated, mum dad aunt granny great granny can all be seen , early deposit and viewing recommended. thank you

go on, seriously - how much clearer could you expect someone to be in stating that these pups will not go to someone just because they're waving money?

just because pups are being advertised on epups does not necessarily mean there's a bad thing happening

and have any of you called the person in the ad? no? then keep your assumptions to yourselves!!!!

perhaps ring and find out?? no much easier to be a keyboard warrior!!! where was the help when 5 needed homes immediately??? oh no where to be seen except slating!!!!

I for one know who the person is in the ad & so do you.

Personally i would not waste my time or expense ringing.

As i said it was just a matter of time.

Tanya i am no longer concerned with ANYTHING relating to you. You have proved exactly what you are all about.

Do not bother EVER pming me again with your calls for help & advice as i only help GENUINE people.

I think selling litters of mongrels for £300 plus says it all really.

Now write what you like as i will not be wasting my time replying.

surely if the IGH breeders are so selective this will happen more and more once saw a post on k9 asking for info on buying a IG not one member replied yet the place lights up if an ad goes on epupz

if you go into it be prepared for the fall out, but some are really lovely and will help all they can coz they truely love the breed and its a very specail breed , but sadly there are things happening which i feel imo ( Just my opinion) which is not good for the breed , so can understand why some real breed lovers will and would get upset not the keyboard warrior crew, but worthy of having a chat with iggy people to clarify things
