Hi All,

We have a small club in South West Scotland (East Ayrshire Whippet Racing Club)and we would like more members next racing season.

There is an existing Non Ped racing club, which next year will hopefully host Pedigree racing as well.

We know there are LOTS of whippets around this area and are trying to entice the owners to race them.

There will be a webpage created (currently work in progress - any views on what would be useful information for people would be appreciated)

www.eastayrshirewhippetracing.co.uk

The web page will be advertised locally (pet shops/vets/etc.)

Can anyone suggest other ways of encouraging people to let their dogs give it a try ?.

Thanks,

Richard

I'd see if your local newspaper would be interested in doing a feature. We attracted new members after our charity event at westhoughton as the papers did a feature on us.

Also I'd do posts in the general whippet discussion forum and lurcher forums on here and approach other whippet / lurcher websites.

Wishing you the best of luck :luck:

Jac

Get as much coverage as you can - posters everywhere and get the local press involved, see if they'd print your race results each week or see if they'd come to an open day and take pic's etc and advertise on your local council's website. Local radio too, they will usually do a feature, maybe get one of your members talking to them, they usually like to get kids involved too and that's also good for your club as it's appealing to families as well as adults.

Let anything race - seriously! When our club first started we got quite a few lurchers but if you let folk with terriers and cross breeds have a go too they might get bit by the racing bug and be potential whippet owners.

Good luck :luck:

Alternatively your current members could all just get 10 whippets each

10 Whippets each sounds like fun (We have enough mayhem with 2 !.)

Great idea to get a link from the council website. We tried the local press last year with limited success but will try again next year.

Great Idea to have your own club web site. 8)

We have added your link to your club details on the Regions Section on the BWRA Web site this will give you more hits hopefully.

Well Done

Malcolm

Any other non ped club who has a web site please let us know.

getting our van pictures on windows and sides + whippet racing will be different, and promote whippet racing. as lots of folks say ( do you still have whippet racing)??watch out for the big red van

How about the BWRA/FED printing a large quantity of window stickers...with contact numbers.

Then encourage all members to buy and display these on our vehicles.

????????????????????

For window stickers/transfers how about something like...

British Whippet Racing Association/Fed

'A Hobby for all the Family'

(Silhouette of racing whippet)

Interested?

Contact Tel No. or Website Address

A simple BWRA/FED poster could also be designed which K9's could download themselves (to keep association costs down) and distributed to each of our local Libraries/Community centres etc.

Also posters are handy to stick on car windows at Lurcher shows / game fairs etc
