I Thought I'd Wet The Bed!!!

Jacques sleeps on my bed most of the night, and just recently he has been having quite "active" dreams. Even on the sofa he will go into a deep sleep and start jumping and whining, but not as bad as last night.

I woke at 4am to find the back of my nightie damp. Felt the bed to discover more wet patches. On closer inspection, I could see Jacques had wet the bed and tried to clean it up. A teacup size stain of yellow, surrounded by a dinner plate patch of wet where he had been licking. It had seeped through the bedspread, duvet and cover and onto me and the bottom sheet. Thankfully the mattress protector did what it said on the tin!! Hubby said he heard Jacques "doing a lot of licking" but didn't think anything of it.

Has anyone had experience of their hounds wetting whilst sleeping??

We are preparing for Rachel Hopton's visit tomorrow evening, so this will be another interesting `Jacques` tale to tell her!!

I'd take him to the vet, it sounds as if he has an infection...get a sample to take with you if possible!!

LOL yes a sample would be fun!! I'm hoping there's no repeat performance tonight, or he'll be relegated to his own bed! He hasn't shown any signs of feeling off colour, so i doubt an infection is the cause. More likely rough and tumble dreams and the over exuberance of youthful flesh!!!! :huggles:

Samples from male are not difficult - wire coat hanger made into a long handle and jam jar, and you just take him out to the nearest lamppost and collect

I have never heard of dogs urinating while asleep, except when very old and incontinent. You would not see any sign of bladder infection; take him to vet ASAP.

Yes Alfie wet his bed a while ago, turned out he had a swollen prostate and a bladder infection so probably a wise move seeing the vet. As for the sample I didn't bother with the coat hanger, just washed my hands throughly after! :x

Up to date info on Jacques` night time antics! No problems since. We think he was getting over exited due to going out on his own each day. His sleep was hilarious to watch...jumping and twitching with whines and snorts like a horse!! These past few days he's calmed down a lot...methinks due to Homeopet's drops.

Walks are much better. He knows "wait" means to stop at kerbs and when people are passing by. We have started taking a squeaky bone on our walks and when he pulls we squeak it. Immediately he turns round and we praise him. It's getting better by the day!

Just because certain behaviour isn't typical, it doesn't mean it won't happen. If anything that Jacques has been through, and our subsequent aids help someone else going thru similar problems, then it won't have been wasted.
