I wondered if any one knew what criteria is required to become a moderator? thanks in advance x

I've no idea as to what happens on K9, but on the messageboards I moderate on, I was invited to moderate. Presume it's the same everywhere.

Most of the moderators on here have either been approached by the admin or reccommended by another moderator.

This is different for the club moderators though, if you run a club you can put yourself forward.

I don't think k9 needs any more mods for the time being.

Just pondering if this a very democratic way of nominating moderators? iI seems like a system which is fallable to 'cliques' forming. Surely it would be more democratic for members to be able to nominate moderators as well, or vote from a selection of nominees, hence allowing those who regularly use the site some input into how it is run, hence giving people more of a sense of ownership and meaning people are less likely to challenge decisions made by the moderators.

Just a suggestion but it would be interesting to hear other peoples views on the matter.
 
This isn't a democratic website. It's owned by a couple, funded and run by them and as such they can pick and choose what they want to do with this site. Being a member on here is a privilege not a right.

They've chosen the moderation panel and seeing as thought the rest of us can't see what underhand stuff goes on beneath the forum like threatening PM's, abuse, identity fraud, fraudulant usernames, tunneling proxy servers, etc. I think they are most definately the right people to choose moderators for this forum. :thumbsup:

There's obviously nothing stopping you all setting up your own website and running it however you wish. :thumbsup:

anyone can be a member on here and as we have seen people who are banned and cause trouble are left on here to carry on with it and actually its normally the folk who are trying to stand up for themselves are the ones who seem to into trouble for it ;)

A certain mod on here made a very rude and offensive remark not long ago and nothing was done about that !!
 
I agree with Jac ... I think it's easy for forum members to forget that we are all effectively here by invitation and that that invitation can be withdrawn at any time ... forums have forum owners with perfectly legitimate agendas of their own and these forums exist to serve their ends not ours. That said though I would have thought that any forum owner would recognise that happy members means a successful forum and so might find it in their best interest to on occasion consult their membership about certain things.

From a moderator's viewpoint it is one of the most difficult tasks I have ever undertaken. There is absolutley no way you will please all the people all the time. The rules we moderate by are the Forum Rules, the same rules everyone should abide by when they join the Forum. Wild Whippies is right when she says it is a privilege to join and speaking personally I will be forever grateful to Nigel and Judy for bringing us K9. My two whippets came via the Forum, many other people have Forum dogs, sometimes we lose sight of the joy it has brought into many of our lives.

I am intrigued by the cliques that can form, I have only ever met two of the moderating panel, that probably goes for many of the other moderators. We come from a variety of different backgrounds, encompassing many of the activities we are able to undertake with our dogs. I have never joined a clique in my life, I am a member of two whippet forums, am not a member of Facebook, do not twitter and am as open and devoted to my breed as I can be.

there are good and bad in everything and we all have different opinions on things , i think june was an fantastic moderator,
 
Most of the "super moderators" on K9 have been with the site since the early days and are in a position to comment on how it's changed. K9 was solely a whippet website, Gen Disc Whippets, Pedigree Racing & Non Pedigree racing, all posts fitted into these categories and took hardly any moderation.

Those members who stick to board rules and aren't involved in a "clique" i can guarantee will have no issues with the moderators.
