Just wondered how often everyone Frontlines their dogs?

I use Frontline pipette approx every 6 weeks in Spring through to summer especially , but was wondering if it is meant to be once a month? As a lady in the park today said she does her dogs every 4 weeks :- and that is what her vet recommended. I wouldn't want to be over doing it, but when I looked at the packet it does have a sticker for every month

She also said her vet said there is a flea epidemic this year (w00t)

OOPs sorry don't know what happened there!! It came up flood control then posted this thread 3 times (w00t) Sorry!!

I am using frontline at the moment once every six weeks and that seems to be fine.

Hi,

I have 4 dogs, two with bad flea alergy.I frontline them every 4 weeks, the others every six weeks. The vet advised me to do this,as he said that the Frontline does start to weaken after 4 weeks. As we spend most of the summer around other dogs at dog shows, this routine has stopped any problems, and we have been flea free for years.Hope this helps.

I never have Frontlined (or similar) and don't intend to start. And I've never had a dog with a flea yet ... touch wood. What we do do is give them CSJ Billy no Mates and/or garlic and run a flea comb over them if we think they've been somewhere that puts them at high risk, although that's just a precaution and hasn't turned up anything to date. I can't recommend the CSJ supplements highly enough

I have never had a flea on any of my dogs, maybe Im just lucky. Do worm regularly though.

I have used frontline never had a flea on them yet well not in the last 3 or 4 years but as i have just seen annies post (metalchicken) going to give CSJ Supplements a go (billy no mates) as we feed CSJ food and found it very good well the dogs love it so it must be good

I have always wondered about the Program and Advantage brands as well, but always used Frontline I suppose as I am used to it. Well the dog and cats are :-

Medicanimal has a 10-15% reduction on Frontline up to 1st May if anyone interested, you just type APR99 as your discount code at checkout

Mine have a garlic capsule every day & I go through their coats regularly with a very fine toothed comb. If I did find a flea I would just squish it but they are few & far between. I just don't see that it's worth dosing the dogs up with chemicals every month to ward off maybe 1-2 fleas per year. we go to loads of dog shows & visit sheep country quite often. Sometimes one of them will pick up a tick but I use one of the removers & then rub aloe vera onto the skin.

The CSJ stuff is supposed to be very good, I've used their "Calm Down" herbs for Scrumpys nervous problems

same here i use garlic and bath them in tae tree shampoo. iv only had one lot of fleas in years and thatw as a dog that came in with them and then i did everyone in front line spray and again 4 week later and the all gone no problem. it was partly my falt i didnt check the dog before i brought it in so had to do everyone. but a good come through a couple of times a week the best thing and gives you a chance to look over for any odd lumps bumps and cuts and scarpes aswell.

Should have said that we use tea tree oil shampoo too :)

I prefer the Billy no Mates to the garlic ... I find the garlic can, um, go through a bit quickly sometimes :x

Megan can have a sensitive tummy. Is the Billy No Mates ok on the tummy? Might be a problem getting her to eat it as she is on dried food and is a fussy little madam :- :-

Is the Billy No mates safe for cats as well? As I have four and have heard Citronella is toxic to cats but not dogs. So was wondering if any of the ingredients in Billy No Mates were not cat safe?

I can always ask if I go to order some

we use Frontline or Stronghold but only every third month or so.

Must confess I haven't treated mine for fleas since last November though I will treat them in May through to September this year before harvest mites start up.

Billy no Mates is marketed as for dogs and cats. It's a combination of mint, seaweed, fenugreek, neem leaves and lemon balm. I think it's only citronella oil that can be toxic, not lemon balm leaf. As to sensitive tums etc ... it doesn't seem to cause problems for any of mine, and they all happily scoff it. Wilbur wasn't too sure in the beginning though so I mixed his in with a teaspoon of natural yoghurt for a while ... that went down very well :)
