I am a flat dwelling whippet owner so have always taken him out frequently as we have no garden access. I know they are lazy but he is becoming more and more awkward about walks! How far/how often do members recommend?

Hiya snap, i also live in a small space (boat) with a whippet, no direct access to garden, my poor fella has quite a way to walk before we get to a suitable bush for him to wee on. He was a rescue and really didn't like going out when i first got him, but is a bit better now.... So i take him every four hours during the day, i take him for an hour in the morning, with a bit off offlead if possible, a few little wee walks during the day and half an hour or so in the evening,

BUT, this is only if his highness agrees.

if the wind is blowing from the wrong direction or the sun is in his eyes, or if it is raining or foggy, or god forbid snowing, then this is all subject to negotiation. The hours walk in the morning can take only the shortest distance, as my little drama whippet makes every attempt to turn and scamper back home. He never asks to go out, ever...I have to keep asking him if he wants to go out, and when i see his ears flicker, or if he whines for no discernable reason, out we go... But he often changes his mind on the threshold leaving me out in the rain tugging on his lead (and swearing)

I notice you are in north yorkshire, do you reckon it could be the changing season thats affecting your dog possibly? Or something else thats putting him off? Mine has had cut paws and tings before that have really slowed him up. How old is he? In what way is he being awkward? Mine comes to work with me, but i notice at weekends he does get bored doing the same route as last time, and wants to go off in the opposite direction.

Wow, that reply was incredible, you could have been talking about Rex! Very reassuring, so thanks. Yes today is raining so not been far. We often have to change direction if his lordship decides my planned route is not suiting his mind!
