I just wondered if anyone could help me work out the percentage of whippet in a dog?

The reason I ask is my bitch is whipet bedlington now dad is 7/8 whippet 1/8 bedlington and mum was 50/50 whippet bedlington. Which makes my bitch??????? other than majority whippet

I have a pedigree whippet boy who I have been thinking about putting to her in her next season as I have been asked by many people locally if I was going to breed them. If I did what percentage whippet do we then have in the pups. My bitch looks whippet, smooth coat.

Thanks in advance for any help with this as I have been pondering it and wondering :teehee:

Your whippet's Dad = 7/8 Whippet + 1/8 Bedlington

Your whippet's Mum = 4/8 Whippet + 4/8 Bedlington

Your whippet bitch has half of each parent = 7/16 Whippet and 1/16 Bedlington from Dad + 4/16 Whippet and 4/16 Bedlington from Mum.

So your whippet is 11/16 Whippet and 5/16 Bedlington. This is 68.75% Whippet and 31.25% Bedlington.

If you mate her to a full whippet the pups will have:

Dad = 16/16 Whippet (ie full whippet)

Mum = 11/16 Whippet and 5/16 Bedlington (your bitch)

The pups have half of each parent = 16/32 Whippet from Dad and 11/32 Whippet + 5/32 Bedlington from Mum.

So the pups are 27/32 Whippet and 5/32 Bedlington.

That is approx 84% Whippet and 16% Bedlington (or roughly 5/6 Whippet and 1/6 Bedlington) so mainly Whippet then!!

I hope this is right - it's a very long time since I did fractions!! :sweating:
