Hello everyone, have wanted one of these dogs gor a very long time. Have done alot of research into the health problems etc and know it's important to buy from a good breeder who uses health tested patents. Am hoping to talk to other Cavalier owners as well as getting general dog/ puppy advice. :)

Hi
Cavaliers are lovely little dogs, I hope you're aware of syringomyelia?
Apparently the health testing for this isn't always right or something. So something else to consider if you haven't already.

Best puppy advice I can give is get a crate, this made toilet training so much easier when I got my puppy!
Get your pup used to it first by feeding breakfast/dinner and treats in there with the door open and gradually put the pup in with a nice treat and close the door, leave him/her in there for a few minutes and gradually increase the time, then when he /she is used to it and happy in there he /she can spend the night in there and go in there when you're out. Make sure you get the right size, the idea is that they don't like going to the toilet where they sleep, so they need just enough room to turn around and lay down, and no water in there either because guaranteed it will get tipped over! And they shouldn't have water just before bed/during the night anyway
I advise this for every new puppy owner on here because I swear by it! Haha
I'm not sure who on this forum owns a Cavalier but hopefully someone with one will reply.
Have you had a dog before? :)
