Just though we'd introduce ourselves on here. Basically we are in a position (finally!) that we can get ourselves a little dog and long story short, getting fed up of looking through 'free-ad' type classifieds to find paying way over the odds for cross bred dogs, we can remember cross bred dogs being called 'mongrels' and would always see them listed as 'free to a loving home'. These days people seem to call them something fancy and charge a fortune for them. Seems lots of unscrupulous people are getting their dogs together to sell the offspring to make a quick buck and sadly it seems to be taking over.

Anyway, long story short we are looking for a King charles spaniel (boy) pup and hoping there is a list of specialist breeders on here who do it for love more than money that we could get in touch with to see about getting one.

hi kevnmich, welcome to the forum!

I know exactly what you mean about unscrupulous breeders! It is one thing that gets me really cross. There have been a few upset people on here recently who have bought puppies from these type of ads, and have bought pups that are far too young, and already poorly etc etc. I looked at a website and saw hundreds of litters, it was a bit of a shock. How lovely that you are looking into things and doing your research! I know nothing about king charles's, apart from their superduper cuteness, and the hereditary difficulties they can have. But there are lots of people that visit this site so there may well be one that recomend a lovely reponsible breeder to you, and there is lots of other puppy advice.

If i was you, i would find a king charles forum too, (but we want to hear all about your quest here still!) and maybe post a message on there asking for any reccomendations, and have a good old ring around. Also there maybe a specific king charles rescue, that might stick you on a list for a potential adoption.

i would also so say that just because someone has kc regisitered pups, thats no guarantee of future health or good choices of parents, so it may be best to go with your gut feelings, and as you say, find someone that is doing it for the love of their breed and a desire to have healthy animals, rather than make a quick buck...

How exciting though!!! Puppies! Yay! Do let us know how your quest goes! King charles puppes are one of the cutest, :)

Hi and welcome!

Congratulations on making a decision on getting a little one. My gf is desperate for a cavvie and have promised her that we shall have one as our next dog!

Cavvies can come with a few issues like brain and eye problems so I would highly recommend getting your new puppy from a breeder who has had BOTH parents MRI scanned. Obviously, this means that the cost of a puppy is slightly more however you can be sure you've done everything in your power to make sure your puppy is healthy. However there are no guarantees that a puppy is healthy even if you have tests done. Your are just reducing your chances.

Have a search on google for a local Cavalier King Charles spaniel clubs, they usually have links to registered breeders in your area.

All the best on your search for your new addition.
