Hi Everyone,

I am at my wits end,and just wanted to know if anybody has experienced anything similar, and what they did.Twice in the past few weeks,Spike has been chased off my local field by another dog.The dogs were not aggressive, but Spike just got frightened at being persued. He has always been well socialised, and playful with other dogs.He is still fine with dogs he knows, but the experience has really effected him. This morning, two dogs he has met in the past, ran up,tails wagging,to say hello, and he turned tail.Luckily he stopped,as the other two dogs went back to the owner.I feel like i will have to stop letting him off with dogs he does not know,or at least until he builds his confidence. Can anyone help.I love Spike, and want to help him. It,s just down to one or two dog owners who let there dogs run riot!!

Hi Amanda. Leo was chased buy a dog he just ran luckly he ran back to the car and hid under it . Then some time after another dog chased him to play with him . Again he just ran and ran . He was so scared he would not come back to me . If i am on a field and a dog runs at us i put him on his lead . I tell the owners hes scared and they put there dogs on a lead and i walk with them. I allways get so cross when people have dogs off a lead and they scare my dogs!

Recently when stussy was still able to potter about we took her for a walk near my mum in laws house, she had a fun play with a collie and a couple of labs and then i put her on a lead as we walked back through the woods as i could not see what was coming dog wise.

Anyway a woman walked towards us with a fat old staff off the lead, my 2 were both on and it came over and jumped on stussy so she growled (understandable!) then the bloody thing grabbed her round the neck and started shaking her  the owner did nothing so i used my foot to shove it off and get it out the way, then she started to have a go at me saying if my dog was off a lead it wouldnt have happened!! You can imagine the response she got! my poor old girl was just pootling along happily before this bloody thing attacked her, dogs like that should not be off a lead!!

Anyway we walked back to the field and I spotted the dogs she had been playing with earlier and just let her off again to have a play but she was really shook up

If my dogs had a bad experience i try and get them to have some fun asap with dogs they know, maybee the only way is to keep him on his lead unless you know all the dogs that are off loose, just help him build up a bit more confidence :huggles:

Hi Pam,

Thats what i have started to do,so that he knows the dogs are not a threat. You know what a softie Spike is.If a dog chases Finn,he stands up for himself, but not Spikey!!Spike ran across the road the first time, and luckily,he was fine.I will do everything i can to help him get his confidence back.I just wish in his panic he would run back to me,but he runs first, and thinks later.

Yes,i think so dog owners are plain stupid!!I usually click Spike on anyway,as he is not the best at re-call.I don,t profess to have perfect dogs!!but i do think about other dog owners.Sometimes you just get caught out and people pop up from nowhere. The first dog that chased him was a doberman, which the owner said was friendly, stupidly,i then let Spike off, which was when it chased him across the road.I thought he had built his confidence back up,well until today,so i think i need longer. He is a fab dog,who is very well behaved with other dogs, but i think he must have"pick on me"on his forehead!!Thanks for the advice, sorry you had a bad experience.I have had dogs 20 years, but in the last two years,i have had more grief when out the the dogs,.

Awwww poor Spike. Send him a cuddle from me. :huggles: This kind of thing happens a lot these days. People are so rude and irresponsible. It's always the nice dogs that get put on their leads and the nutters that get left off lead to molest whomever they choose

I hope Spike gets his confidence back soon. The only thing I can think to suggest is maybe choosing some of the quietest walks for a while and avoiding the doggy hotspots. Good luck.
