Hi All,

Well after weeks of searching for ringcraft lessons, as the one I was supposed to go with Chance has closed down  I'm at a loss,

there is no other classes in my area, and as I want to show her next year I really don't have a clue how to start training her up on this.

please could someone give me the very basics of showing her e.g how to stand her, walk with her, what commands you give, etc.....

I just don't have a clue how to start  , please help :(

Hi Tina,I would suggest that you go along to a few shows & watch how the whippets are being shown & handled, that's how I initially learn't when I had my gsd's.Where do you live, someone could let you know what shows are coming up in your area. :)

BTW....can't say that I like your signature very much!!! :b (w00t)

Hi Alfyn,

I have been to some local shows, but they have all finished now, is there a website out there somewhere, were I could get the info I need?

I live in North Wales by the way, and there nothing wrong with my sig, it's my cute little corn Harry :p

Hi! Tina I have the same problem where I am, no ringcraft, all the shows are miles away :(

Hi Lesley

it gets me very frustated  when I know chance could be a little star too!

all I want to do is show her off :( but don't know how!

tina surely theres somewhere that you could train her.i live in the north west and there used to be dozens of ringcraft classes round here(havent shown for years now so im not up on it locally)but if you wanted to go to one every night of the week you used to be able to take your pick.have you tried any local obedience training clubs?usually they will try to help and will do things like instead of doing sits will do show stands etc.ask the kennel club, ask fellow exhibitors, ask anyone.if there isnt anything start your own up,as if there isnt anything in your area maybe theres a need for one, so you could advertise in your library asking if anyone would like to set a local ringcraft class up.maybe theres a few older folk who used to show/judge who would like to help an give advice about what to do an where to start.a lot of retired people have lots of time on their hands but theyre not senile and maybe would like to spend a few hour once a week helping out,if not physically, maybe with advice on how to run a ringcraft club.go out there and ask.im sure youll get help ;)

Tina get your little star trained up and then post all her successes on here! :)

I sure will Kris, I'm attempting to start her on Monday when the kids are in school,

she's 15 months old, she knows the basic comands, sit, lie down, paw etc, so thats a good base to work on,

just another quick question though, how long should the trainning sessions last?

I don't want her to get bored and frustrated with it, cheers :)

at 15 months i would have had her fully trained by now.however you should be able to do say 5 or 10 min sessions with her once or twice a day.theres nothing looks worse than a dog thats ring tired,so dont over do it.just stack her up for a few mins each day and youll be able to increase it untill she should be standing for as long as the judge needs to see her, usually a few mins for the examination, then another few mins for a final judgement when the judge has finished examining the dogs in the class and is making her /his mind up which to pick.treat it as a game.make it fun.make it enjoyable.

Thanks Kris,

and I would have had her fully trained by now IF I could have, I spent months looking for ringcraft classes, and then it closed, so what was I supposed to do?

anyway I'm not an expert, I just hope I don't mess it all up, having NEVER done anything like this before
