I have a nest of 4 baby swallows in my porch,& unfortunately, one of my dogs murdered Mum yesterday :(

For a few hours,Dad was coming in & out to feed the babies, but i haven't seen him this morning

The babes are just peeking out the nest & looking very sad, what can i do?

I reckon it'll be another week before they can fend for themselves.

Only thing I can suggest is to get a load of dead flies and mush them up with water then feed it to the chicks :x :x

Ella is a bird killer too :(

Your's must be mighty fast to get a swallow (w00t)

I know they eat flies/insects etc,but how the hell am i supposed to catch loads of them?

Is there anything else i can give them?

PMSL Debs!

Just had a vision of you running round with a butterfly net trying to catch flies

Suppose worms will do? Maybe get some from an angling supplier?

What's my one & only huge great phobia.......WORMS (w00t) :x :x :x Just typing out the word makes me feel :x :sweating:

Must go & buy a butterfly net  :D

Think you can buy flies from angling shop too  so you should be ok :teehee:

Ahh,thanks  Nearest angling shop 25 miles away....it's gonna be one of them days

Try phoning St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital for advice - they are really helpful

Good luck! :luck:

Maybe your local pub has an Insectocutor in the kitchen (they should have, by law) - you could always ask to empty it out and use the dead ones from that (w00t) :D  ......... this is getting hilarious now - although I feel a bit guilty for the poor ickle swallow babies :(

Good luck with helping them :luck: :luck:

Now that's a good idea, & as our local is owned by the vicar, she can't really refuse, can she :D

Let us know how you get on Debbie, hope they survive....

I have funny visions of you standing on a step ladder with a pair of tweezers in your hand with dangling moths, caterpillars...

and your dogs all jumping up around you...

Yes Janis,i'd already conjured up that vision too,but also of me ending up with a broken neck

Anyway,i'm pleased to say that Dad is back & working overtime to feed the babes, bless him  I just hope he can manage on his own :sweating:

Here's the little darlings :)

What a brilliant shot...

Good luck Dad...hope they all make it into the big wide world... :huggles: :luck:

Oh, what a relief! :sweating:

He was probably out trying to find a new ladyfriend to look after the kids (w00t)

More than likely, but he hasn't succeeded yet :huggles:

I'm going to keep watch though,as maybe 5(there was another one hidden in there) little beaks will be too much for him to cope with

I hope the little scaps thrive under dad's care

Well so far so good :) ,& going by the pile of you know what in the porch :x ,i would say Dad's doing a grand job

I would think another5-6 days & they'll be off feeding themselves.

I really love swallows,we have loads here every year,& it's great to see them swooping over the garden, deliberately teasing the dogs,& don't they chatter a lot :D

Love the photos Haycroft
