Help Finding A Border Collie

Hi guys a friend of my family has recently had their border collie die.

They have now decided that they are ready to take on another dog, they are looking for an older dog from about 2-3 years old definitely no pups as they cant be there all day but the dog will be accompanied by their other dog a small terrier cross.

They are looking for a Dog and definietly no bitches. They live in Gloucestershire also and dont want to travel to far. Rescue dogs obviously are the fist choice.

Im not really sure where to start looking, as i have mentioned they live in Gloucestershire so that narrows down the options a bit.

Teckels is a good rescue in Gloucestershire.

Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue is close and nearly always has collies looking for homes, some I know of in foster homes in Gloucestershire. (have to admit to an interest, as I foster for HWAR and live in Gloucestershire!)

Bristol Dogs home and Baths cats and dogs home are also not far away.

It is always so sad to lose an old friend but thankfully the human heart is always big enough to find a space for a new friend. Very best of luck to your friends in finding their new furry. I am thrilled they are considering a rescue dog.

Should just add that if your friend's look at the HWAR website (www.hwanimalrescue.org) it is always worth ringing up to see what dogs are in - many dogs never make it onto the website. The dogs on the web are only a sample of the dogs in the care of the rescue.

Possibly other rescues will also be in that position.

Wiccaweys are a fantastic specialist border collie rescue, and they have some wonderful dogs in at the moment http://www.wiccaweys.co.uk/start.html

I realise that Northamptonshire is probably further than your friends want to travel, but perhaps finding the right companion for the next 15 years or so might make the journey worth it!

Is the Midlands too far to travel because the Border Collie Rescue Trust are absolutely fab. We had a rescue from there (not a collie) and my mom rescued a collie/spaniel from them. They provide you with loadsa info about the dog and train them while they are there.
