Hi My jack cross is nearly 3, she has always had good health, up to date with everything. a month ago she started vomiting a lot so i rushed her to the vet she then started passing a bloody jelly type substance and not proper poo that lasted for about 7 days, she was on anti inflammatories and a low fibre diet. after several trips back to the vets she was then taken off the drugs and given a high fibre diet. things seemed to improve after a week she suddenly started to throw up again and came in for the garden yelping and shaking that lasted for about 10 seconds. she has stared to have streaks of blood in her poo again. she has had scans, blood tests, X-rays they have all come back clear. she is now being referred to wellington, I'm currently waiting for the phone call. i am being given mixed advice, flea - don't flea vaccinate- don't vaccinate!!! I'm pulling my hair out i really don't know what to do for the best!!! i seem to be cursed at the mo as my daughter lost her 12 week old rabbit at the beginning of the year and they said thats because she hadnt been vaccinated, but the other rabbit is happy and healthy and is now vaccinated!!! someone please help! :( :( :( :( :(

Just hold fire until you have seen the specialist at the referral centre.

If she is up to date with her vaccinations and her booster is due, just wait for the advice of the specialist. If it turns out to be an auto immune problem then vaccinations need to be carefully thought about. Otherwise they are usually fine. Flea treatment can also wait until you have a definite diagnosis.

Sorry to hear about your rabbit. There is not a lot of advice out there about vaccinating rabbits. You live and learn :(

Thank you. I shall post what the referral centre say going up on Friday

My dog had Collitus about six weeks ago. When i saw the red, jelly like stuff coming out of his back end, i was terrified- i even took a pic of it before rushing him to the vet! He was given an anti sickness injection - the really painful one, paste that's a good bacteria thing - can't remember what it was called now and antibiotics as a precaution. I was told to bring him back to the vets the next day if he hadn't started eating - luckily he woke me up at 3am and wolfed down some chicken. I'm convinced he got it from drinking out of a muddy puddle in a park that's used by lots of dogs. I always carry water with me on walks, but if he rushes ahead and gets to a puddle before i can stop him drinking then there's not much i can do.

I really hope everything works out well with your doggy

Can it be brought on by stress?

My dog got attacked a couple of weeks ago and suffered the same symptoms i read regarding collitus

Lasted around 5 days before she started feeling better again.
