Hi I am new here, I do not have a dog yet but will be getting one in the next few months, though I am not new to dog ownership.
I have been looking up about the breed me and my family want and researching them and came across this forum and have been reading posts.
We are looking at homing a Border Collie its a breed that we all love, and love the engergy of this wonderful breed, I have had one previously though she was a mix of Border collie and Irish red setter and a totally wonderful dog but thoroughly mischievious and lots of fun.
I have 3 children 2 still at home but one is off to uni this year all being well and able, I also have house cats though for the youngest am looking at building a outside pen for them, its not safe to let them out here but we do have a decent size back garden and some nice walks where I live.

Welcome to the forum. I do wish more cat owners were as responsible as you. Looking forward to hearing about your dog when you finally get him/her. Border collie x Irish setter sounds beautiful but very high energy!

Thank you, two of the cats are now elderly so would not go out at all as they have always been house cats but the younger ones will go in the pen which is going to be large, its lots of fun. Border collie x with a Irish red setter is a very high energy dog, ours had more of the setter traits in her would run full pelt for hours if allowed to, play chase, loved going up the steps at the park of the slide and sliding down, very mischievous and playful, very intelligent, loving and also protective though never taught to be.

A friend was looking at border collies a couple of years ago and in the U.K. it seems there are no known lines totally free of epilepsy, so that's something to check for in recent generations.

Thank you Joanne it is something I am aware of and would be looking into when looking for a pup.
