Hello. He is called Vardy and hes a shih-tzu/Jack Russell mix. He is 9 weeks old. Had him for a week now. Overall he is a loving smart dog but having problems with him. Posted on puppy thread.

Please tell me about your doggie :)

Oh I do like JRT crosses - they have such character!

Please tell me about your doggie :)

Jasper is a lurcher, mainly greyhound & deerhound, so he's a big lad. He'll be 11 in December. All those years I spent wishing he'd slow down and now he is slowing down, I'm hating it!

I have an elderly female lurcher. I have had five generations of them, and used to keep terriers too.

And welcome from me too. We've always had 'just' terriers of various description, including JRT and one JRTx. Currently I have 2 young terriers, one 'working' Lakeland (it is type rather than breed) and one bit of a 'Heiz' (wirefox x lakelandx). Looking forward to witness more of your and your dogs 'story'.

Yes I had them as pups, one was 8 weeks and other one was 12 weeks when they arrived and yes, they were VERY high energy/hyper little monkeys. As the older one was already 1 year old when the younger one arrived, she needed her normal walks when the younger one wasn't yet allowed on the ground for needing still her full injections..so younger one was carried along. Also I used to take each of my pups to learn about traffic from early on...by just carrying them to close to nearest road and standing where they would be comfortable and we would just watch the world go by. I would talk to the pup and explain what she would be seeing and pointing out different things to her. I know she would not understand but it is also part of the bonding...she would learn to listen my tone of voice and what message/vibe it would deliver.
When they are still little, they don't need full body work out as various mental stimulation through play and other activities is big part of their daily activity needs. Play, play play and let the pup see and hear lots of new things...that on its own will tire them out...their growing and functioning brains drain lots of energy, so make the pup use it. What they have experienced during the waking hours, their brains will progress it while they sleep...that's why pups need to their sleep and plenty of it.
Once they get physically stronger you can slowly start to increase the pup's need for longer walks.
But lots of playing...ripping cardboard...seeing wilder world...plenty of rest...chewing...and the pup will be as happy as it can be...and hopefully finds less time to get up to mischief...but it will tire out you as well :D
