Just before judging commenced at Guildford show today we had a minute's silence for Caroline Dowsett. I was very shocked to hear that she had passed away ...... does anyone have any details???

Caroline passed away last week, 17th Dec aged 60 in St Peters hospital. She had been unwell since May really, said she just felt odd at our summer show at Guildford and went home. For those of you that dont know Caroline she had sufferd badly from arthritis for years and I guess had to take lots of medication for this. She lost loads of weight through the summer and then was taken into hospital. Her last show was Midland Counties where she seemed to perk up a little bit. I think the doctors could have done a bit more but it was too late, her death was not related to her other complaint, she had a liver failure in the end.

The funeral is Christmas eve but it is private with just family, there will be a memorial later in the new year.

Known more perhaps for her beautiful Deerhounds but also a great coursing person, I think we have all seen her lovely black and white bitch on here.

Her husband took the dogs coursing on Saturday because this is what Caroline would have wished. I will miss her forthright views on country matters and her good humour despite her disabilities.

Absolutely devastating news, I cannot believe it is only just a year since I purchased my first whippet from Caroline.

She has produced some wonderful dogs and her whippets really had great influence in the coursing world. I feel priviledged to have known her and to own one of her dogs.

Thanks Karen, it is really dreadful news. So, so sad

Whilst at the Deerhound racing at Lodge Park I was told that Caroline was suffering from colitis. She'd already sold her male deerhounds. Her great bitch Ch Terichline Ripple having had to be pts this summer having developed a spinal tumor.

Talisman (Terichline Wayfarer) and I have lit a candle for her and no doubt he will have a little whine about it.

(If that wouldn't annoy her with it's sentimentality I don't know what would <wry smile)

She was a lovely person. She'll be with her Ripple now.

Like many people, I've just been shocked by reading of Caroline's death last week. I was aware that she was in hospital, but hadn't realised how seriously ill she was.

This a tragic loss, for her family and 'dogdom'.

Words fail me-not sure if that's ever happened before.

Rest in peace Caroline, I know there are whippets and deerhounds pleased to be with you again at Rainbow Bridge. Especially Ripple, who has not had very long to wait at all.

Thank-you Dessie for posting this sad news, and Karen, for filling in more information.

Lydia
