Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and great to meet so many other dog owners. I have a 9 year old Chihuahua. She has had a grey colour over her eye for a few months and vet put her on remend.the vets say it’s Corneal Dystrophy I found out today. Today I took her to the vet who suggested Pred Forte 5ml for a week. These are steroid eye drops but looking at reviews these are strong with side effects. She also suggested she sees a specialist eye vet. I don’t have pet insurance no more but wondered if other dog owners have gone through this? We are arranging a consultation to see what can be done.

It's not something I know anything about but I just wanted to say welcome on board, and I hope you get some answers.

We had the same thing years ago with a rescue french bulldog...she glaucoma...swelling behind the eye and an eye ulcer ....
I would definitely recommend a eye specialist too as they can tell you exactly what the problem is and what can be done ...eyes can be so painful .......
Welcome to the forum ....

Hello and welcome. I agree about going to the eye specialist, and wish you a happy solution.

Welcome. I hope you get the advice you're looking for here (sorry I can't help). Please keep us updated as to how things go.

One of our whippets (no longer en vie) had retina degeneration and we were referred to a veterinary eye specialist in Leominster. It wasn’t a cheap procedure but it did give us assurance re the way forward. Blue eventually went blind but we attached a bell to the collar of his companion, Poppy (another rescue). He was perfectly fine with the arrangement whenever we went out. We just learnt to live with the situation. Blue accepted the new situation. Hope it all goes well.

Thank you that’s so encouraging to read this. Abi eye has improved I don’t want to use the steroid eye drops because of side effects but as her eyes improved I have remend eye drops that may help. Thanks again.

I have been given antibiotic eye drops now instead of the steroid ones. Hopefully we can avoid surgery not because of cost but her age 10. She’s very active however as normal.
