spoke to a few people at old hall yesterday on this subject seems to be different opinions on what way to treat this kind of injury,my bitch has a lump the size of a golf ball high up on the gracillis anyone wants to add any comments would make intersting reading for me and probably anyone else who hasnt had this injury before.

COULD NOT COMMENT UNLESS I SAW IT RUSS. GO TO A GOOD GREYHOND VET.

Get the swelling down before you go to se the greyhound vet russ plenty ice & heat !

not a nice injurie to have some dogs come back after long lay off with a lot of work on it

oscars done both of his and come back to win vet class at scottish derby two years ago and now he still works the fields like no tomorrow good luck with her russ

i had one with badshah it started off as a bruise and later it went to a drop muscle the dog still raced after but lightly

If she was my bitch Russ I take her to Richard torr at shepshed it nasty injury but I had few greyhounds with problem and have run again ok good luck with it

Best of Luck whatever route you go down Russ :luck:

Your best speaking to your vet or 'dog man', they probably won't want to see initially as there's bleeding and swelling going on but I'm aware some are keen to stitch if the muscle is detached and wouldn't want to say do this or that if it prevents you from choosing this.

Me personally, I've generally used covered ice packs 10 mins on 30 mins off for first 24 hrs and reduced over 3 days when apparently bleeding can be continuing. I don't rate ice sprays as I think compression helps as well or so the physio's acronym for sports injuries says (R.I.C.E- Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation)

I wouldn't massage, use ultrasound or give arnica etc in the first 5 days as bleeding can still be occuring and I'd only start 'treating' when told to do so.

Best of luck :luck:

AS YA DO DID HERs PLENTY OF ICE AND NINE MONTH OFF OK NOW TOUCH WOOD SUE STU AND AS YA DO

My Bitch did hers, took her to osteopath and got told to leave her off for a good few months so left her for almost a year tried to lightly bring her back thought everything was going great but then it went again so was back to square one.

I decided i would retire her at the grand age of 3 lol she has had the odd hand slip with pups but the last time she bruised up so wont be hand slipping now either, but depending how bad your bitch has done hers like others have said she may be back racing after a good lay off.

anyways Good Luck with her :luck:

Agree with Jac,get rid of swelling and bleeding before treating, and once you start treating, plenty of physio (stretching couple of times a day) you want the muscle to heal as supple as possible  agree with good lay off too,but keep her moving Russ, don't leave her on sofa for a long while. In the long run forseeable problems are muscle going again and muscle on other leg going because of balance when running.Best of :luck: with her

Ice is the most important treatment ...to reduce swelling and bleeding ..as is with most muscle tears

Depending on how bad the muscle is torn and where it is torn from as to what would be the after treatment ...time is the most important factor with Gracillis injuries

Even Gracilus injuries vary Tig did both of his and they were different some can drop some tear, and each takes different times to repair every dog is an individual as are injuries. Best of Luck getting the Magster back on track Russ she's a cracking little bitch with a heart of a lion if any dog will recover it'll be a dog with a character like hers. Take every bit of advice with a pinch of salt and do what YOU think is best for YOUR dog!!!

Think everybody needs to remember we are all 'amateurs' in this game as its a hobby afterall and everybody's opinions are as valid as each others ;)

No need to argue like i said i was just asking peoples OPINIONS anyway going to see richard torr [greyhound vet] this morning all bruising has gone and swelling has reduced so hopefully not as bad as first thought.
