Google's disturbing this morning!

I've just been Googling dog jumpers/sweaters for Milly lurcher, especially easy to put on ones as the one she has has no give in it and it's a struggle to put on. So far, nothing disturbing.

Scrolled down and got as far as the Suggested Questions box.

Top question:. "Can I kill my dog in England?".

Just what kind of dog jumpers are being advertised here? . I mean, I know she's a PITA, bit that's a bit extreme.


On a serious note, I hope no one actually asked that. . I dread to think the reasons why anyone would.

Whatever the reason for this specific Google entry, it can be helpful to know that legally in UK you CAN do this providing there is not 'unnecessary suffering'. And it isn't as horrifying as it seems at first glance, because if a dog needs to be euthanised, not everyone wants to extend its suffering by taking it to a vet - especially in the current situation.
A lot of people in the gundog world shoot their own dogs when the time comes. The dog knows nothing. One moment it is scoffing a bowl of food, next it isn't. It is arguable that this is more humane than the trip to the vet. If a dog has been catastrophically injured, it can be the better decision to end its life there and then rather than put it in a vehicle and drive it to a vet. or wait until a vet can come out, if one will.

So it isn't a case of perverts intentionally torturing a dog to death - that is illegal. A humane ending is very different and therefore allowable. But ONLY the dog's owner can do this.

Of rain and only when the temperature dropped below zero, I see so many owners now days have there dogs on unnecessary silly dog stuff, I walk a dog for a old lady who puts two coats on her dog, all I will say is they don’t stay on for long.

I don't dress up my dog but I do have several Equafleece tankies. He has quite a thin coat and they keep him dry and warm.

Thanks to you both. I've looked at them, and they would be ideal, but I'm worried about getting them on and off her. She has a fleece jumper (admittedly not equafleece) and it's a struggle to get her legs or head in without hurting her.

It's OK once it's on.

What is the legal position if someone would like their dog to be euthanased without visiting the vet but don't shoot themselves, and asked a friend who could shoot to do the deed? Given Jasper's fear of the vet, the fact it's nigh-on impossible to inject directly into a vein, and he fights sedatives all the way, I have wondered about options... At some point I'll need to raise it with my vet.

If you can be sure of the size they will make a tankie with a zip, but because it is custom made it isn't returnable.

JudyN, you sell the dog to the other person first, and providing you have documentation of the change of ownership, you are legally fine. There is no timescale or price range for this.

Was it here or somewhere else, I read that a member whose dog hated the vet but loved the car ran a hosepipe from the exhaust? It sounded harsh at first reading but on reflection, it made a lot of sense.

Each to their own! Have this discussion often sadly with horse owners - what is right for one blah, blah.....Too many variables to make a cut and dried decision! Can avoid painful arthritis for sure!

Jan the point I’m digging at is a normal September day I’m seeing dogs with coats on! I think the owners wake up cold so lace there dogs in coats when totally not needed, my dogs made there own heat so not needed plus most people who hunt will give there dogs a nice good rub down .

This thread has gone waaaay more serious than I expected it to. I've kept updated with it but tbh, I've not known how to respond. Lol.
Milly's healthy, for a ten year old dog. Hopefully that'll be the case for a few years yet.

@JoanneF I've looked at Equafleece, and noticed they suggest buying the fleece, try it on, and send it back to fix the zip. That's certainly a possibility. A polo shirt might be another one (I didn't know they did polo shirts until I checked out that website.
