I have just read in Our Dogs that Gillian Ussher MRCVS died on 24 June 2002. The piece is very short and simply says she died in her sleep.

Gillian was a stalwart of the Whippet breed for many years.

Her affix INISKHELLTR being an anagram if where she lived oe Tinkers Hill.

We always found Gillians CC line-ups to be of a consistent type of dog, not our type of whippet but she judged how she saw the breed and, unlike some, placed the dogs not the owner/handler.

Gillian was the editor of The Whippet Biennial.

She will be missed throughout our breed.

Mary Crocker also passed away this week, and her showing really ran alongside Gillians.  Mary had the Crysbel affix made up two beautiful red brindle parti bitches C Skylight and Skylark and had a couple of tickets with a Blue and white also.

She was the first person who spoke to me at my first open show, 20 years ago, I can remember as if it was yesterday.  I was quite nervous and she told me how to get the best out of the dog and said ''If you want to enjoy your showing never worry if you get nothing and never get too big for your boots if you do well''

I have tried to remember this and as soon as one show is finished I forget it and what happened and get on looking forward to the next( Just as well really or I would have gone mad by now)   :D   :D   :D

Richard had a Crysbel bitch way back in the 1970's

Crysbel Gemini  was Sired by Mactavish and out of Crysbel Skylark

It is so sad to lose such people and the knowledge they had of the breed throught the years.
