We had a leaflet put in our door yesterday, regarding Food waste collection from the Council.

They will be introducing a new weekly "food waste" collection for a one year pilot service. We will have two new containers to our house together with instructions on how to use them.

All we do is empty any cooked food or uncooked food waste into the new bin and put it out for collection.like your normal waste and recyling collections.

The waste will be taken to a local processing plant where it is turned into a sustainable compost whilst generating electricity for the national grid.

Are you having this service in your area,or perhaps its already started?

we dont have that here........i think its a great idea, my lot are a right load of wasters :b

nope dont have that here either got 2 dogs that do my food recycling even go through my bin to check they havent missed anything

Me too Kelly - My food recycler is called Blubell

My bin would be empty every week as Hebe tends to recycle food even before we realise it needs recycling. Turn your back for a second & it's gone  thieving mongrel

Collections used to be made from school meals for pigs....but this was deemed wrong for more than one reason....etc....

everything seems to do the full circle one way or another..............

nothing happening in our area at the mo. as far as I'm aware

Karen

P.S. with dogs in the house -nothing needs recycling here....

We had to do this with uncooked food when they first started recycling. However, most ended up going to landfill as the system did not work.

Yes many years ago my dad you to have an allotment where

he had his chickens, rabbits and pigs. He used to go to a lot of the

local hotels/guest houses and collect the left over food then cook

it all up in what he called 'The Copper' for his pigs.

We have five recycling dogs here! Anything they won't eat goes on the compost heap! :)

wish we had that in Brum - I'm a manic recycler: what can't go in the dogs, goes in the compost, What can't go on ebay, goes on Freecycle, What can't be reused goes in the reycling bins!

It's a point of - what? honour maybe? that I only throw away one black bin bag a fortnight - and if it weren't for the cat litter tray it would be one every 3 weeks!

My lot have most of the left overs, but there are some left overs thats not suitable,so this recyling food is ideal :D
