Camloch, meaning "crooked lake" is a small village in County Armagh. It is near Bessbrook and lies between the slopes of Sliabh Gullion and the picturesque Cooley mountains. This was the venue for the South Armagh Lurcher, Terrier, and Whippet show last Saturday. The village of Camlough has a small population ,but the people of this tight knit community certainly have a lot of giving in their hearts. This community really proved that in abundance on Saturday, by the welcoming and hospitality shown to all the Canine people who attended this great show and to support their annual Feile Camlough and the very worthy charities that will benefit from this very big occassion. It is nice to see people enjoying themselves, but it is also nice to know that by our particapation, however small, we are helping to make a little childs life a little more comfortable and somebodys home a little happier. The two charitys that will bebefit from your generosity are:
1/The Ryan Cynamen Fund
2/Chuan Mhuire Alcohal and Drugs Re Habilitation Centre.
The sun shone in bucket fulls all day,and the astomphere was electric. The show kicked off with the Greyhound Racing. There was even a bookies on sight to take all the bets and a slipper who done a wonderful job. There was loads of excitement and cheering over that side of the field.
Ciaran Connells dog, followed By Martin Lanneys dog and then Eugene O Neills dog kicked off the Greyhound racing.Again Matin Lanneys dog ran, as did Gerald Morgans "Maggie " Other names I picked up that were racing their brilliant dogs were Davy Parks and Pat Connell. The childrens handling classes went off so well. I saw the proud look on Leanne Rea and Wendy Barnes face and every other mother and father who had a child walking around the ring with their dogs.Well done to all the children who took part. You all made your parents so proud. In my eyes you were all winners.
The Biggest prize of the day (BEST IN SHOW) went to: John Heaslip with his winning terrier TYSON. John a big congratulations to you and Tyson. It could not of went to a nicer man. My motto through life is " Being best is being better", and you certainly were best on the day.
Finally I hope I have got all of above results right, there were twice as many more, but I would be here writing for a week and would not cover them all. I must take this opportunity to thank a few people for the excellent show they produced at Camlough on Saturday. First of all let me thank the judges for the for the judging on the day. A job well done. Rose Mc Coy for lining up the names for the racing.Great job Rose.To that very important man on the PA sytem who kept the whole show informed and in order. Yes it was Martin Mc Cone. Many thanks Martin for keeping us all in toe. What a pleasent surprise. A very important person dropped into the show, and gave up his spare time to be amoungest his community and support Feile Camlough and the charities who will benefit from the Feile.I had the pleasure of shaking the hand of the "Mayor of Newry" Mayor Charlie Casey. It was nice to see Mayor Casey mingling and speaking to everybody and had photograph taken with the winners.Mayor Casey did not come empty handed either. He brought with him sweets and crisps for every child in the field. Many thanks Mayor for making so many little faces light up, and for you coming to join us all at the show. And last but not least I would like to congratulate Pearse O Hagan and his brilliant committe for the professional way they conducted this show. Pearse you are a star. You run this show along with your committe effective and efficently. All the luck in the world for next year, and the following years, and please god we will all be well and be there again next year for another great and enjoyable show.
