Hey guys
Just joined as looked after my mums dog for 2 weeks while they where on holiday and found numerous things wrong with him. His breathing is weezy. Has a lump that justs seems to be getting bigger under his left armpit. rashes and constantly itching ive atatched photos.

Long story short ive said we need to take him to vets. She said we can't cause we don't have money. Said I will pay. She said what if its cancer. I said more reason to find out. I dont have much money and no job (thanks covid). Anyways ended up in a big argument and basically said Im gonna take him and if you don't let me, its animal cruelty and you will have to rehome him :/

Anyways not after family advice lol but does anyone know what this could all be that wouldn't be the dreaded cancer. I am concerned cause I don't have much but I will pay what I have. I could do with a bit of reasurance that this could be many things. If anybody has had the same issues? they are also saying his fine? Am i just looking to much into this?

bottom one is under his armpit. I also noticed his fur seems discoloured and it looks very thin in some places. I have got a recording of his breathing but can't figure out how to upload
its a 6 year old Staffy
Thanks in advance :)

Update - Thanks for the supportive comments! :) Really helped insure me I wasn't being a drama queen and stick to my guns. Good news though got them to ring and an appointment is booked for me to go with him. Earliest is next Wednesday :/ but still at least its something. Also they have really come around to it and the water has calmed. There even going to buy him nothing but proper dog food today for him! :) Massive win that one

I will post the diagnoses, please don't worry about the welfare of the dog. If worse comes to worse and I don't think he is a good fit for them, ill will adopt him. That way the dog and them still get to see him, but I make the rules :)

Thanks again I will be a regular on this site I think, Thanks to experiencing a supportive community. A rare things these days.

Update Update - Just got back from vets. They took sample of lump and will know in 2 weeks. All the other problems I am told are purely diet. He is 4 kg over weight and I believe after talking to vets its all the cheese and biscuits he gets. Given my mum the lecture and a guilt trip that its cost me over £250. £90 of that was just for 2 weeks worth of tablets. so now its nothing but dog food. hypoallergenic if possible and replacing his treats with carrots. Lol dont think buddy will like that. Grain free food. But end of the day, junk food is killing him. which leads to skin conditions, infections and leads to endless amounts of problems. So yeah. Buddy its diet time lol

Your brave and hey very well done, leaving a dog with problems and not taking him to the vets is plain and simple cruelty, not your fault lad but it’s defo your parents,, get him to vets, some others will tell you more advice,, we’ll done you for acting fast, might just be plain old flea bites, the breathing and lump needs checking out just to be safe.

I'm afraid that it is really not possible to tell, but agree you need to get it seen so you at least know what you are dealing with.

Good luck, I hope it isn't serious. Please let us know.

What a horrible situation for you. Yes the dog needs to be seen by a vet, and the symptoms you describe could be of concern or not - you won't know until dog has had a full examination.

Unfortunately some people do denial very well. I don't relish the conversation you'll have afterwards. But there is a saying about it's easier to obtain forgiveness than permission. And you have to live with your own conscience too.

Come on, don’t we all dislike these kind of owners geez ,the lads doing the right thing here., if your parents don’t understand I’m sure the rspca will.

I hope all goes well for you next week at your vet appointment.
Please let us all know the results and every ones decisions too.

Yeah will do, and thanks again guys. Pretty sure most people on this forum would do the same. In there defence they do love him but they show it through spoiling him with the wrong foods and scared to lose him is the source of the inaction. Anyways will update after appointment.

Sir you are a real gent! Your family must be very proud of you! I was gonna suggest PDSA, but don't know if they are any good or not? Dog is very lucky to have you around! :) Well done

O Wow....... erm Thank you :) don't really know what to say to that.
Gives me great peace of mind to know my actions where justified.

My Scrappy has lumps under both armpits, diagnosed last July as fatty tumours that I have to monitor. He's always been wheezy, he also always coughed and hacked after drinking and now very recently coughs intermittently. I mentioned this (again, how many more times) last July and the vet said he had a slight heart murmur. This last appointment in Friday to monitor the lumps, when I again mentioned the coughing etc, came back with frightening news that he has a leaky heart valve. Not saying that's what's going on with your pup but you've done the very best thing to get him sorted out as soon as you have. We have to be their advocates as best we can and, as upsetting as it is, and here is where I really get your parents' love and fear cos I'm there too, we have to face such issues. I commend you for taking charge and wish you both the very best.

Thank you. Yeah there certainly can be rough times with them. But its part of the contract we sign when we get them isn't it. Just got back from vets and ill post update on original post. Thanks again for your comments and best wishes back bud.
