I have a 6 month old English bull terrier who has suddenly started getting quite bad weeping from one eye and it causes an eye bugger. Its been happening for only 24 hours so far but I wanted to ask for opponions on what the problem could be straight away and possible treatment. Thankyou.

The best option is to seek a vet, as she may need something only they can prescribe and also check for any damage, e.g. tiny scratches.

For mild eye discharge my vet would usually recommend bathing the eye in slightly salty preboiled water as a first step, but as you say your dog's eye is very weepy the vet is the safest option.

I'll try the salt first for a few days and see if it clears up. If it doesn't ill take her to the vet. Thanks for your help.

Eyes are one thing I don't mess around with. The potential outcome if a home remedy doesn't work (or even exacerbates the problem) isn't worth the risk in my view.

I bathed her eye in the salt water. She didn't like but accepted. I'm going to follow my plan previously stated, I don't have money to throw away on vets when they aren't necessary.

I always keep a tube of viscotears in ..they are safe for dogs as I used to buy them from the vets for my dog from the vets until I realised they were half the price from boots ....

I'll buy some, thanks for the tip.
She has improved lots right away and no more eye gunk. Job done.
