hi

We have recently mated our lurcher bitch, Although we dont yet know whether she is pregnant yet, Is it advisable to let her run? Or should we keep her on a lead ?

Cheers

don't worry too unduly about letting your bitch off the lead as long as she doesn't go overboard, exercise is very beneficial, it will help keep the muscle tone she needs to aid delivery of pups, there is also the theory that it increases blood flow and therefore oxygen accross the placenta to the pups.

Nature has a way of looking after itself and she should slow down of her own accord as she realises she is getting bigger, good luck with her :luck:

My bitch was mated just over 2 weeks ago & she's getting the same treatment as before - she's still running about etc... The way i look at it is if they were out in the wild they wouldn't have someone to keep them on a lead so i've just let her do what she wants - what will be will be

Let her do what she feels like. Later on she may get uncomfortable if she has a big belly on her, but she'll let you know herself. It's more important than ever that she stays fit and in good shape, ready for the tough time ahead of her!

I have always exercised my bitches up to and sometimes on the day they whelp.

I think they would have been more stressed being left behind. As I walk in a field next to the house they can amble along at their own pace. Other than a slight adjustment to feeding and giving raspberry leaf from 3 weeks onwards they are treated just the same.
