we are going to have an ECO day at school so no lessons for the day just eco stuff we also want to involve the community so were asking people with DIY skills and who are good with a spade.

we want something for all year groups to do Foundation stage to key stage 1 and 2 so age 4 to 11.

we are hoping to get wildlife groups, people from local allotments, and any other people we can think off.

we need to do a big clean up of the school litter picking and re doing all garden areas.

we are applying for a lottery grant to get an outside classroom built and some willow tunnels /sculptures.and some better pathing around school so the children dont have to walk througe mud.

so has anyone got any more idears so we can make this realy fun for all and not seam hard work for the children. we need a sucsess so we can do this again in other years.

we are an eco school ane we have our bronse and silver awards and are going for the green flag its very exsiting.

What about getting the kids to sort out the litter they find into items they can recycle and those they can't and then working out if they need bins for the recycling and where they should put them?

On a similar note maybe they could sort out recycling boxes for every classroom and design some posters to advertise what should be put into them, maybe turning it into a competition.

Finally could they go around school looking for ways of saving electrity such as turning off lights switches etc - even going into the head's office and staff room places they wouldn't normally get to go into to make it more exciting.

You could get the younger ones to make models of the school/garden/new wing using only recycled things, maybe bring them from home ect or go on a hunt round school for packaging boxes and old stuff that can be re-used for their project, so it tidies up while making something else :)

A little competition to think up a 'green/eco' slogan using the School's Initials as the start of each line -

So for a school called St. Judes Roman Catholic Primary (I dont know of that one, so random)

and the kids have to think up a sentance to do with Eco/Green living like errrrrrrm LOL

C - Clear away your litter

Ive helped out at our local community windmill project, where school kids come up for the week during school hols - activities have been craft based as well as teaching stuff like beekeeping, growing your own veg etc.

One activity was making wildlife models out of rubbish, so trash to treasure kind of thing - so they picked out of the box of rubbish, things like yoghurt pots, twine, sticks, blah blah blah, and made up models of spiders, caterpillars etc wildlife they would like to attract to the garden. God was it messy, but the kids had great great fun, it was just set up on a table with pva, paints, glitter, One of the most favourite items to use in models was tights and newspaper to make up caterpillars. They got to display their artwork at a local gallery, so its all good publicity as well LOL.

Also with Kids prizes are a huuuge incentive - so prize to the class that collects the most recycling etc.
